Quotes from the Presentation:
ÂÂ
Man of the Match Shikhar Dhawan: 'It was one of my lucky days. You do get some lucky days. I was playing well in the earlier matches but kept getting out. The wicket was not easy to bat on, but my partnership with Dinesh got us through. I'm enjoying the moment as I'm in good form. Just wanted to play on the merit of the ball. We knew we attack later because we have a good range of shots.'
Virat Kohli: 'It was always going to be a challenge for our batsmen, we lost early wickets and there were a few close calls as well. There are two sides of having luck. You could get bogged down or keep going. Dhawan kept going despite getting a few edges. Dinesh Karthik played well, thought he deserved a 100, pity that he didn't. The wicket suited Unadkat's style of bowling. He bowls a good length and has good change of pace. The other bowlers supported him well. We are a new side and we are going to be put under pressure. The guys responded really well today.'
Brendan Taylor: 'We gave them too many chances (dropped catches) and that went against us. The partnership between Dhawan and DK really killed us. It was a good wicket for batting. The batting top order has to take responsibility for this failure. We were really slow on the field. In hindsight, we should have allowed the game to slow down a bit. Our seam attack is pretty strong. We have to play the middle overs better.'
ÂÂ
20:56 (IST) FACTOID: India this year have played 19 matches, won 14 and lost 5. Four wins against England, three wins vs Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, two against West Indies and Zimbabwe. For more stats from the game, click here.
20:47 (IST) Shikhar Dhawan's 116 and a four-wicket haul by Jaydev Undakat helps India take a 2-0 lead in the 5-match series. Catch all the pics from the 2nd one-dayer.
ÂÂ
20:39 (IST) So Elton Chigumbura (46) and Prosper Utseya (52*) waged a 88-run seventh-wicket stand - the best of the innings for Zimbabwe but the asking run rate was in the end too much to handle. Earlier Vusi Sibanda (55) and Hamilton Masakadza (34) kept the hosts in the hunt with some big hits in a 64-run second-wicket stand. Unadkat's 4/41 was supported by Amit Mishra's 2 for 46, Jadeja's once again miserly performance (1/30) and Mohd Shami (1/52). R Vinay Kumar was once again the most expensive of the Indian bowlers.
ÂÂ
20:35 (IST) No the hat-trick is not there but India win by 58 runs. Jaydev Unadkat finishes with 4 for 41 as India restrict Zimbabwe to 236 for 9, chasing 295.
ÂÂ
20:33 (IST) Ninth Wicket: Brian Vitori is bowled first ball, Unadkat on a hat-trick... will he get there? Tendai Chatara to face.
ÂÂ
20:30 (IST) Eighth Wicket Kyle Jarvis bowled by Jaydev Unadkat.
ÂÂ
20:28 (IST) Prosper Utseya reaches his 4th ODI fifty, and he's happy to get there. He hit two consecutive fours off Shami and then he gets three toward square leg to reach the milestone in 60 balls. Zimbabwe are 233/7 after 49 overs. One over to go for an Indian win.
ÂÂ
20:24 (IST) Seventh WICKET: Elton Chigumbura falls short of his half-century. The burly right-hander is caught behind off Mohd Shami. Chigumbura c Karthik b Shami 46 (58b, 4x4s, 1x6)
20:08 (IST) Things looking more and more bleak for the home team now. The partnership is now 60 runs from 90 balls, but 102 is needed from 30 balls.
ÂÂ
19:58 (IST) Elton Chigumbura and Prosper Utseya are steadily keeping themselves slightly in the hunt, with a 50-plus stand. They've added 51 odd 10.5 overs. However, the run rate required is increasing by each dot ball, single. Zimbabwe 185/6 (42 overs), need a further 110 from 8 overs.
ÂÂ
19:50 (IST) Meanwhile, whats happening in Kandy? where Sri Lanka are facing South Africa in the third ODI, follow the live scores here.
ÂÂ
19:40 (IST) As the batting powerplay starts, Elton Chigumbura finds another boundary, this time between the fine-leg and square off Jaydev Unadkat. Zimbabwe need more such strokes from him as the required run rate is 9.92. Still 129 needed from 13 overs.
19:30 (IST) The six of the day! Elton Chigumbura literally swats an Unadkat ball over long off for a six. The left-armer bowled it short of length around off stumps and Chigumbura gave it a huge thump and the ball sailed away over long off fence! Chigumbura stands between an Indian win today.
ÂÂ
19:15 (IST) Sixth Wicket - Amit Mishra gets rid of Malcolm Waller, lbw to a googly. Mishra completes a wicket-maiden. Waller scored 2 off 13. Zimbabwe 133/6 (31 overs), need 162 more from 19 overs.
ÂÂ
19:06 (IST) Fifth Wicket - Amit Mishra strikes to remove Hamilton Masakadza and Zimbabwe slump further. Masakadza goes for a conventional sweep but gets a top edge and is caught by Mohd Shami at short fine leg. Masakadza hit 34 from 47 balls with a help of a six. Zimbabwe 130/5 (28.1 overs) need 165 more to win. Elton Chigumbura, Malcolm Waller at the crease.
ÂÂ
18:56 (IST) Fourth Wicket - Sean Williams out lbw to Ravindra Jadeja. Williams goes for a reverse sweep and is struck in front, a loud appeal by Jadeja and umpire raises the finger. Williams scored 5 off 11 balls. Zimbabwe 127/4 (26.1 overs), need 168 more to win.
ÂÂ
18:48 (IST) Appeal for a stumped but it looks as if the batsman is in. Hamilton Masakadza's back foot was grounded as Karthik removed the bails off Jadeja's bowling. The green light is on.
18:40 (IST) Masakadza is dropped by Suresh Raina off Mohd Shami. The medium pacer found the edge of the right-hander and Raina stuck his left hand out, but the ball popped out to give Masakadza a life.
18:31 (IST) Third Wicket: Unadkat can't do anything wrong! Brendan Taylor (0) is run out. This time the shows off his agility by running to the ball and hitting the striker's end stumps. Taylor, who wanted to steal a single, is found short of his crease. Zimbabwe 109/3 (20.5 overs). Masakadza joined by left-hander Sean Williams.
ÂÂ
18:27 (IST) Second Wicket - Jaydev Unadkat removes dangerman Vusi Sibanda. The right-hander tries to clear mid-wicket but finds Amit Mishra at the position. Sibanda out for 55 off 65 balls. Zimbabwe 109/2 (20.1 overs).
ÂÂ
18:20 (IST) Vusi Sibanda dances down the track and hammers Amit Mishra for a huge six over long on and gets to his 19th ODI fifty. Partnership going strong at 48 runs from 7.2 overs, at more than a run-a-ball.
18:04 (IST) Sibanda at it again, Vinay Kumar the sufferer this time, comes down the track and pulls to leg side for another four. 16 runs from the over, two fours and a six! Zimbabwe 82/1 (16 overs).
ÂÂ
17:51 (IST) The fifty is up for Zimbabwe - in the 12th over. So far Jaydev Unadkat and Ravindra Jadeja have been superb in keeping things tight. Unadkat has figures of 3-2-6-1 and Jadeja 2-0-7-0.
ÂÂ
17:46 (IST) FIRST WICKET - Oh did we speak too soon? Sikandar Raza is gone, falls to Jaydev Unadkat for 20 off 35 balls. Unadkat digs it in and Raza goes after it but mistimes the pull, only for Shikhar Dhawan to run in about 20 meters to his right and take a catch. Zimbabwe 45/1 in 11 overs. Hamilton Masakadza is the new man.
ÂÂ
17:42 (IST) Ravindra Jadeja enters the attack and gives away two runs in his first over. Zimbabwe 44 for 0 after 10 overs, another solid stand by the Zimbabwe openers, like in the first game. Better batting conditions here though. Both players have hit more fours (6) than India scored (5) in their first 20 overs. Can they make it count now?
17:30 (IST) Jaydev Unadkat comes into the attack and makes an impression straightaway! The left-armer cramps Sikandar Raza for room and he bowls at short of good length to the right-hander, finishes the over with a scorching bouncer that leaves Raza ducking for cover. Zimbabwe 30/0 (7 overs), need 265 more from 43 overs.
17:21 (IST) Wow, what a throw, the stumps are broken, as in literally in two pieces! Ravindra Jadeja throws down the stumps from backward point as the openers complete a single in the 6th over. The fierce throw breaks the leg stump and the umpire calls for a new stump! Pity, that was not for a run out!
ÂÂ
17:14 (IST) First four for Sikandar Raza - the right-hander comes down the track and hits Shami over extra cover for four. Three balls later, Sibanda plays a pickup shot wide of long leg for four. Zimbabwe 21/0 (4 overs).
17:06 (IST) - BREAKING NEWS - Fourth ODI between India and Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo on 31st July has been postponed by a day to 1st August, due to elections in the country (Read full story here).
17:00 (IST) Sibanda means business as he hits pulls Vinay Kumar couple of times in the first over to get 2 fours. Zimbabwe 8/0 after 1st over. Mohd Shami to bowl with the other new ball.
16:55 (IST) Vinay Kumar to start proceeding as Vusi Sibanda as Zimababwe begin their 295-run chase. Here we go...
16:32 (IST) So India get way more than they actually bargained for - 294/8 in 50 overs. Once Shikhar Dhawan was out, it looked as if India would end up around the 260-270 run-mark but some lusty hitting by Vinay Kumar at the end takes India to a total where the bowlers will feel a little comfortable. Dhawan scored a third ton - 116, Karthik (69) supported him with a 167-run stand for the fifth wicket after the visitors were in a spot of bother at 65 for 4. Extras were 3rd highest scorers for India with 28. Brian Vitori was undoubtedly the best bowler for Zimbabwe taking 2 for 27 in 8 overs.
16:28 (IST) Indian tailenders gather 23 runs off the final over to end at a challenging 294 for 8. R Vinay Kumar turned out to be the unexpected big-hitter for India with 27 runs from 12 balls, hitting 2 fours and 2 huge sixes. The last over, was the most eventful of the innings - Wicket of 1st ball, 6 off 2nd ball, 4 off 3rd ball, 6 off 4th ball, single off penultimate ball and a huge six by Mohd Shami Ahmed on the final ball!
ÂÂ
16:24 (IST) Eighth Wicket: Ravindra Jadeja falls for 15 as he drills it down deep mid wicket's throat off Sean Williams on the first ball of the final over.
16:18 (IST) Two overs to go and India would do well to reach 280 in 50 overs. However they'd need some big hits from Vinay Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja. India 263/7 (48 overs).
ÂÂ
16:10 (IST) Seventh Wicket - Mishra is run out, against the run of play! Trying to go for the third run, Mishra was found short at the non-striker's end, there was some miscommunication between him and Jadeja. India 252/7 (46 overs), Mishra out for 10 off 7 balls. Vinay Kumar is the new man in.
16:00 (IST) Sixth Wicket: Dhawan is out, bowled to Prosper Utseya for 116 off 127. Utseya bowls it a tad down the leg side and Dhawan goes for fine paddle sweep and the ball takes the glove on the way to the stumps. India six down now for 237/6 (43.3 overs). Amit Mishra is the new man.
15:54 (IST) Fifth Wicket - Dinesh Karthik is run out. Dhawan tried to steal a single close to the bat and was off for a run in a flash, Karthik came in from non-striker's end but by the time Brendan Taylor the keeper came in and hit the stumps directly, it was too late and Karthik had to depart for 69 off 74 balls. Ravindra Jadeja comes in.
15:45 (IST) Dhawan gets it! A third ODI hundred for Shikhar Dhawan, reaches it in 116 balls, thanks to a drive past extra cover in the 41st over. India 216/4 (41 overs). Dhawan 102* (118b, 10x4s, 1x6), Karthik 64* (71b, 7x4s).
ÂÂ
15:44 (IST) Both batsmen tearing into Prosper Utseya, 13 runs from the 40th over, thanks to two back-to-back fours by Karthik and a bludgeoned four past extra cover by Dhawan. India 211/4 (40 overs).
ÂÂ
15:37 (IST) Dinesh Karthik gets a fifty - his 7th in ODIs. Karthik gets a full toss from Utseya and he sweeps it fine past short long-leg for four. He reaches the milestone in 64 balls, with the help of 4 fours so far.
ÂÂ
15:33 (IST) What a hit! Shikhar Dhawan launches into Kyle Jarvis and hits the first six of the day for India, and what a biggie that was, way over the straight deep mid-wicket fence. The reserve umpire has to come in with a fresh set of balls.
ÂÂ
15:27 (IST) Dhawan hits consecutive boundaries off Utseya to bring up the 100-run stand between him and Karthik. India 170/4 (36 overs), Dhawan nearing yet another hundred and is on 80*, Karthik 40*.
ÂÂ
15:20 (IST) The 150 is up for India, thanks to this sensible partnership between Dhawan (67*) and Karthik (38*). India 154/4 (34 overs)
ÂÂ
15:05 (IST) Both batsmen playing it quite sensibly here. Dhawan and Karthik have scored 25 runs in the last 5 overs without breaking a sweat. India 139/4 in 31 overs.
14:55 (IST) Reverse sweep by Dinesh Karthik and it fetches him four off Prosper Utseya. India 127/4 (28 overs), Dhawan 55*, Karthik 26*.
ÂÂ
14:48 (IST) Dhawan brings up his fourth ODI fifty! Dhawan reaches 50 from 70 balls. The left-hander delights the few Indian fans at the Harare Sports Club as he creams Chatara in front of square on the leg side for four. Also, the fifty partnership is up between Dhawan and Karthik. India 116/4 (26.1 overs).
ÂÂ
14:42 (IST) India's 100 is brought up in the 25th over, and just to put icing on the cake at the halfway mark, Karthik drives Chatara past extra cover to bring up his first four of the day. India 106/4 (25 overs), Dhawan 46*, KArthik 14*.
14:33 (IST) So a much-needed big over comes to an end for India. A total of 14 runs from it and three fours to Dhawan, one of them albeit freely given by Zimbabwe thanks to poor backing up at mid on and rocket throw from Sean Williams at backward point. India 95/4 (23 overs), Dhawan 45*, Karthik 5*.
14:31 (IST) A boundary after 11 overs - Dhawan goes a for pull and keeps it down and places it to the right of fine-leg for four off Tendai Chatara.
14:22 (IST) 20 overs gone and India are in no way in command and are struggling at 74/4. More than 8 overs since the last boundary was hit. In all, only 5 fours have been hit in the innings so far. Just for the record, extras are the second highest run-getter for India today with 19 so far - 2 leg byes, 9 wides and 8 no balls. Dhawan 28* off 52 balls.
14:18 (IST) FACTOID: Suresh Raina is now without a fifty in his last 10 innings. He last scored a fifty nearly 6 months ago, on January 27 against England at Dharamsala when his 83 of 98 balls went in vain.
14:08 (IST) Fourth Wicket: Suresh Raina falls in a familiar fashion - out caught behind down the leg side! Tendai Chatara picks up his first wicket of the day. Raina tries to fiddle with the ball round his hips and gets a faint tickle, Brendan Taylor this time does a neat job, dives to his right and completes the catch. Raina fell for 4 off 11 balls. India 65/4 (16.4 overs). Dinesh Karthik is the next man in.
ÂÂ
14:00 (IST) 15 overs gone and India are 59/3. Dhawan 22*, Raina 2*. Projected score at this stage: If 4-an over: 199, 6-an over: 269.
13:57 (IST) - Meanwhile, here is what happened about an hour back, Kohli was unhappy with the catch taken at mid-on (read full story here).
ÂÂ
13:51 (IST) THIRD WICKET: Ambati Rayudu bites the dust! After failing to get the scoreboard moving along quickly, Rayudu tries to get out of his shell by driving Vitori over extra cover, but he mistimes it completely and is taken by Prosper Utseya at cover. Rayudu scored 5 runs from 25 balls. India 55/3 (13.2 overs) Suresh Raina the new man in.
ÂÂ
13:41 (IST) Fifty up for India in the 12th over, as Rayudu, Dhawan play for singles! India 51/2 (12 overs) Right arm pacer Tendai Chatara into attack now after 6 overs each from Jarvis and Vitori.
ÂÂ
13:35 (IST) Dhawan breaks the shackles somewhat by dancing down the track to Jarvis and drilling the ball past extra cover for four. India 48/2 (11 overs), Dhawan 19* (27b, 3x4s), Rayudu 3* (18b)
ÂÂ
13:26 (IST) Brian Vitori getting some medical attention here as he dropped Rayudu in the 10th over. Rayudu went for an uppish straight drive and Vitori could not latch onto it, and got hurt in the little finger of the right hand.
ÂÂ
13:19 (IST) Dhawan is playing a charmed innings here! This time he is saved by a drop catch, by none other than the Zimbabwe keeper captain Brendan Taylor. Jarvis bowls it full outside off and Dhawan gets a faint edge, Taylor grasses a simple chance, probably in excitement of taking a third wicket!
ÂÂ
13:17 (IST) New man in Ambati Rayudu has a different proposition here and he is playing quite cautiously. 10 balls and he is yet to get off the mark. India 38/2 (8 overs)
ÂÂ
13:03 (IST) SECOND WICKET: Drama here at Harare Sports Club: Virat Kohli is unhappy with a catch taken by Malcolm Waller at mid-on off Kyle Jarvis. Angry Kohli forces umpires to recheck twice and the verdict from third umpire is out. Kohli c Waller b Jarvis 14 (18b). India 35/2 (6.2 overs)
12:55 (IST) Another no-ball by Jarvis and Dhawan gets another go at a free-hit, this time he smashes it past extra cover to register his first four of the innings. The previous free-hit ball went for four leg byes. Two balls later Dhawan drives Jarvis for another four past the covers. Big over this for India by Jarvis, unlucky for him, 15 runs off it. India 29/1 (5 overs)
ÂÂ
12:52 (IST) It could have been a second wicket, had Kyle Jarvis not overstepped on that occasion. Jarvis found the outside edge of Dhawan and it was safely taken by keeper Taylor. But the no-ball saved Dhawan and gave him a new life. Can he cash in?
ÂÂ
12:49 (IST) FACTOID: Brian Vitori is a 23-year-old left-arm fast bowler, who was born on February 22, 1990 in Masvingo. He made his Test debut in 2011 vs Bangladesh when he picked up 5 wickets in the match including 4 in his first innings. In his 7 previous ODIs, Vitori scalped 15 wickets, including a 5/20 on debut vs Bangladesh, two years ago.
ÂÂ
12:44 (IST) But Kohli does not bother about the slips, plays a free flowing drive past extra cover for four to bring up India's first boundary of the innings. Next ball though, he's beaten and plays with softish bottom hand, ball falls just short of second slip.
ÂÂ
12:42 (IST): Zimbabwe applying pressure on Virat Kohli, who scored his 15th Hundred two days earlier - three slips in place for him on the bowling of Kyle Jarvis.
ÂÂ
12:36 (IST): First Wicket: Rohit Sharma dismissed by Brian Vitori - caught by Vusi Sibanda at second slip. Left-armer Vitori just keeps it full outside off stump and Rohit is lured into a shot, gets a thick outside edge and is taken low down. Rohit Sharma out for 1. India 2/1 (1.1 overs)
12:34 (IST): Good line and lengths from Jarvis against Rohit Sharma, on and outside the off stump. The batsman finally gets a single of the last ball.
ÂÂ
12:29 (IST) All set for the start now, Rohit Sharma will strike to Kyle Jarvis, who has 24 wickets from 23 ODIs. Here we go...
ÂÂ
12:20 (IST): India opening batsman Rohit Sharma, just minutes before going out to bat, says, "It is different challenge opening the batting, especially in theses conditions. The ball moves around early so you have to play yourself in. However, you cannot be over defensive, need to make use of the loose balls whenever."
ÂÂ
12:14 (IST): Pakistan-born right-handed opening batsman Sikandar Raza, who top scored for the hosts in the first ODI says, "The next innings after a big score is more crucial then the previous one, my coach told me that."
ÂÂ
12:10 (IST) - Left-arm seamer Brian Vitori makes the Zimbabwe XI, replacing leg-spinner Tinotenda Motumbodzi. India go unchanged.
ÂÂ
Teams:
India (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Shami Ahmed, Vinay Kumar, Jaidev Unadkat.
Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Vusi Sibanda, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor(w/c), Malcolm Waller, Elton Chigumbura, Brian Vitori, Prosper Utseya, Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chatara.
ÂÂ
12:04 (IST): TOSS - Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor wins the toss and puts India into bat on a sunny day at the Harare Sports Club.
ÂÂ
11:48 (IST): India are playing a bilateral series in Zimbabwe for the first time since 1998. They won the three-match series 2-1.
ÂÂ
11:35 (IST): Virat Kohli became the fastest to 15 ODI centuries (106 innings) when he hit 115 in the first game. (Read here)
ÂÂ
11:21 (IST): Rohit Sharma will play in his 100th ODI in India colours. He made his debut in 2007 against Ireland in Belfast.
ÂÂ
11:11 (IST): India are likely to go in unchanged as they have a good combination. Zimbabwe also may not tinker much with their batting order though they may take a look at their bowling attack.
ÂÂ
India will be high on confidence after their thumping six-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Harare on Wednesday. Virat Kohli's 115 led the way for the Men in Blue while Ambati Rayudu announced his arrival on the international stage with an unbeaten 63. (Read Match Report)
ÂÂ
But the win was not without some glitches. The Indians conceded too many runs in the latter overs while their opening batsmen faltered playing rash shots. Kohli will look to his boys to pull up their socks and that they may put in a more disciplined performance.
