Roddick reaches Paris Masters quarters

Paris:

Top seed Andy Roddick is through to the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters following a 6-1 6-2 win over Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia in the French capital on Thursday. The American number one seed was clearly keen to get his match against Hrbaty out of the way quickly. He held serve in the opening game and then went on to break his opponent's in the next game. In fact Hrbaty only managed to win one game in the opening set which Roddick raced through to take by 6 games to one. The second set was much the same as the first, with Roddick dominating play.In all he fired 16 aces against his Slovak opponent and went on to take the second set 6-2 and with it the match after just 50 minutes on court. Gaudio beats GinepriGaston Gaudio, the 2004 French Open champion is also through to the last eight. The seventh seed rallied from 3-0 down in the opening set to breeze past Robby Ginepri of the US in straight sets, 6-4 6-1. Gaudio will face Tomas Bertdych for a place in the semifinals.Any French presence in the event was ended by Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, who downed the unseeded Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-5 6-4. Stepanek, who is seeded eighth, next meets the third seed Nikolay Davydenko who progressed earlier in the day with a three set win over fellow Russian Dmitry Tursunov. David Ferrer of Spain beat Tommy Haas on Germany in a later match, but it took the Spaniard three sets to dispose of his unseeded opponent. The tenth seed won the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set tiebreak before clinching the third set 6-3 for the win. Ferrer next faces Roddick - a daunting prospect considering the form the American top seed is in at the moment. (AP)
