Mahut and Herbert, Australian Open runners-up earlier this year, won their first Grand Slam doubles crown and became the first all-French duo to capture a US Open men's doubles title.

The 31-year old Nicolas Mahut captured the title at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on Sunday, beating Lleyton Hewitt of Australia 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

The second-seeded Isner, listed at 6-foot-9, served 23 aces, including three in each of the tiebreaks. The 6-foot-10 Karlovic had 14 aces, but double faulted on match point.

Russell lost the first three points of the deciding tiebreaker before rallying to reach his second career ATP semifinal. He raised both arms in triumph when Sijsling hit a backhand return long and wide.

It was a Wimbledon rematch for the pair. Isner retired in the third game of the previous match last month after injuring his left knee.
