The 24-time Grand Slam champion was already fighting the injury during the match and he decided to withdraw after dropping the first set 7-6 (5). Notably, Djokovic was carrying the injury from his quarter-final contest against Carlos Alcaraz. This saw Zverev making it to the final and keeping his hopes alive of winning a maiden Slam title after a decade of trying.
