India went down 0-2 to Uzbekistan on Day 1 of the Asia-Oceania Group 1 Round 1 tie.

Namangan, Uzbekistan: India went down 0-2 to Uzbekistan on Day 1 of the Asia-Oceania Group 1 Round 1 tie. Vivek Shokeen who played the first singles match lost in straight sets to Denis Istomin who is ranked 525 places higher than him. Karan Rastogi also succumbed in straight sets to Farrukh Dustov ranked 114 places above him. The doubles tie is on Saturday and the reverse singles on Sunday. If India loses this tie they will be forced to play a relegation play-off. Ironically the only time the two teams have met before this India had beaten Uzbekistan 5-0.
