Montreal:
Fourth seeded Elena Dementieva became the highest seeded to be knocked out of the $1.3 million Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada on Wednesday.
The French Open runner-up was beaten by WTA rookie Gisela Dulko of Argentina 6-1, 6-4.
Myskina advances
Meanwhile, No.3 seed Anastasia Myskina advanced to the round of 16 with a straight sets 6-0, 6-4 victory over Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain.
The Russian was in devastating form from the outset, striking 14 winners and taking the set 6-0 in just 26 minutes.
Myskina broke again in the opening game of the second set - but the contest became a lot tighter when Parra Santonja won her first game of the match in the third game of the second set.
She broke Myskina's serve in the fourth game and the match was firmly poised at 4-4 until the Muscovite broke service for a 5-4 lead and served it out from there.
In another encounter, Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova overcame some spotty serving and beat Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico 6-1, 6-4 in her opening match at the Rogers Cup. (AP)
