Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych retired from the Barcelona Open on Tuesday with an intestinal illness, officials confirmed.
The Czech fifth seed will will be replaced in the draw at the Real Club de Tenis by Rui Machado of Portugal.
Berdych stands 1-1 on the clay this season after losing in last week's Monte Carlo Masters third round.
