India captain Rohit Sharma has rubbished the rumours of him meeting head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, in the midst of the Indian Premier League, to discuss India's plans for the T20 World Cup. Over the past few days, several reports claimed that Rohit caught up with Dravid and Agarkar in Mumbai for a two-hour-long meeting, where two primary topics were discussed - Hardik Pandya needs to bowl regularly in order to get into the T20 World Cup squad and whether Virat Kohli should open the batting with the Indian skipper.
Speaking on Club Prairie Fire podcast, Rohit denied all the claims and labelled them as 'fake'. He also warned the fans against believing anything that is not coming directly from him, Agarkar, Dravid or the BCCI.
"I haven't met anyone. Ajit Agarkar is somewhere in Dubai playing golf and Rahul Dravid is actually watching his kids play in Bengaluru. He [Dravid] was in Mumbai but he got him [the son] to play on a red-soil wicket at CCI. That's about it," Rohit revealed.
"We haven't met, to be honest. I think in today's day and age, unless you hear it from either myself or Rahul himself or Ajit himself or someone from BCCI coming and talking in front of the camera, everything is fake," he added.
Coming back to Hardik's situation, the all-rounder replaced Rohit as the captain of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. However, his form this season has been a concern as the former Gujarat Titans hasn't bowled regularly.
He has been leaking runs over 12 per over with only three wickets to his name.
Meanwhile, Kohli has been firing at all cylinders with the bat in IPL 2024 as he leads the run-scoring charts so far.
Until a month ago, there were speculations regarding Kohli's place in the T20 World Cup squad, but his blitz in IPL 2024 has put an end to that useless debate.
As far as India's T20 World Cup squad is concerned, the BCCI is expected to break the suspense later this month or the first week of May.
