The second Test is very well poised with two more days of action left. India are firmly on the front foot, but with rain posing a threat, their chances of winning the Test could well be impacted. Sri Lanka have been resolute at times, and will be aiming to put up a big fight in order to avoid a clean sweep at home.

Stumps has been called on Day 3. Against all odds, Sri Lanka have managed to survive the entirety of the day, despite it looking very unlikely at one stage. From 173/7, they've fought to reach 265/8. Sonal Dinusha has been phenomenal again with 85*, but he's received excellent and resistant support from Keshara Nuwantha and Lahiru Kumara.

And the rain has indeed arrived. The umpires were seen on the ground with umbrellas over their heads, the raindrops are clearly visible on the covers that have been just brought on. 

Not only is it raining, but the light is pretty low too with dark clouds all over. Chances of further play today are not high.

Sanjay Manjrekar on commentary says that the drizzle is very light at the moment, but the covers have come on as precaution, as there is a "99.9% chance" of heavier rain in a short while.

And the showers have returned! The covers have been rushed onto the field in the middle of the 84th over. It has gotten very dark in Colombo, and the players have run off into the dugout. Play is stopped with less than an hour left in the day.

Sonal Dinusha looks to be suffering from some kind of issue, potentially some cramp. There's a small break in play as Dinusha receives some treatment.

The umpires also use the light meter to monitor the conditions. Dark clouds hovering over the stadium, and Sanjay Manjrekar informs on commentary that the batters have already indicated their dissatisfaction with the light.

Sri Lanka batters are showing a cautious approach and not taking any risks. However, in the previous over of Saransh Jain, the duo of Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha scored eight runs. This include a massive six from Dinusha. Sri Lanka need more of such overs.

Hello and welcome to the second session on Day 3 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka. After a brief rain delay, the match has finally resumed. Sri Lanka are batting 130/4, trailing by 373 runs. 

The rain has stopped but the ground is still wet. The ground staff has removed the covers and is giving its best to dry the outfield. As for now, the start of the second session has been delayed due to wet outfield. 

Oh!!! As the game is currently paused for the lunch break, it has started raining in Colombo. The ground staff has covered the entire field as the showers are quite heavy. Hopefully, the game will resume at the scheduled time. 

This marks the end of the first session on Day 3 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka. At Lunch, Sri Lanka's score read 130/4 in 32 overs, trailing by 373 runs. Currently, Pasindu Sooriyabandara (65*) and Dhananjaya de Silva (4*) are standing unbeaten for four-down Sri Lanka. In the first session, Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for India. 

OUT!!! On the cusp of lunch, Prasidh Krishna strikes again and give India another breakthrough. Shubman Gill's strategy of bringing Prasidh back pays off as he dismisses Kamindu Mendis for 32. Mendis tries to go for a boundary but fails to get any elevation. As a result, Ravindra Jadeja takes an excellent catch at the mid-wicket. Fourth wicket gone for Sri Lanka.

BOUNDARY!!!! Pasindu Sooriyabandara hits a brilliant four on Ravindra Jadeja's delivery. Pitched up outside off, he takes advantage of the width on offer and places the drive square on the off side. In total, Jadeja concedes five runs in the over.

FIFTY!!! Pasindu Sooriyabandara takes a single on Ravindra Jadeja's delivery and brings up his half-century in style. It is his maiden Test fifty and he brings it up in 76 balls. With this, Sri Lanka also cross the 100-run mark and are now enjoying the momentum. Shubman Gill needs to think something out of the box now.

The duo of Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis is playing a brilliant knock. In the previous over of Manav Suthar, the duo scored 11 runs, which included a boundary from both the batters.

The partnership between Pasinda and Mendis is changing the game for Sri Lanka as India bowlers desperately need a wicket at this moment.

SIX!!! Shubman Gill brings Manav Suthar into the attack and Kamindu Mendis hits a massive six. Tossed up outside off, Mendis goes for the slog sweep. He connects slightly straighter than he would have liked, yet gets enough of it to clear the long-on boundary. Suthar gets hit for nine runs in his first over of the day.

After getting hit for boundaries, Saransh Jain redeems himself and bowls a maiden over. India right now need a wicket, in order to stop the partnership Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis from growing.

Sri Lanka batters Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis are forming a good partnership and bringing their side out of trouble. In the previous over of Mohammed Siraj, the duo scored six runs, which include a boundary form Mendis.

Sri Lanka batters are taking on Saran Jain and stealing boundaries regularly. It is worth noting that Shubman Gill is yet to bring star spinner Manav Suthar today. Notably, Suthar took 10 wickets in the previous match and even took a wicket yesterday. He should be in the attack soon.

FOUR!!! Kamindu Mendis joins the party in style and gets a boundary from Saransh Jain. Kamindu  advances down the pitch, frees up his arms, and executes an elegant inside-out drive over extra cover. Sri Lanka need more of such boundaries in order to gain the momentum and pose a challenge in front of India bowlers.

Shubman Gill finally decides to bring spin into the attack and hands over the ball to debutant Saransh Jain. In the first over of his Test career, Saransh concedes six runs. This includes a boundary from Pasindu Sooriyabandara. After the dismissal of Kamil Mishara, Kamindu Mendis has joined Pasindu Sooriyabandara at the crease for three-down Sri Lanka.

OUT!!! Prasidh Krishna redeems himself in style and dismisses Kamil Mishara for 19. A short ball, Mishara gets totally confused and ends up bringing an edge. As a result, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel grabs a good catch behind the stumps as Sri Lanka lose their third wicket.

Shubman Gill's strategy of starting with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj backfires as Sri Lanka batters Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis make good use of the conditions. In the previous over of Krishna, Mishara hits a boundary as Sri Lanka continue to move ahead in the game.

As the day has begun, Shubman Gill has decided to stick with pace in the early hours of the match. First over was bowled by Prasidh Krishna, where the duo of Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamil Mishara scored 12 runs, which included two boundaries from the latter. In the second, Gill turned to Mohammed Siraj, who leaked just a single. India are desperate for some early wickets.

Day 3 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka finally begins. For Sri Lanka, Kamil Mishara and Pasindu Sooriyabandara have resumed the proceedings from 8/2. On the other hand, Prasidh Krishna will be bowling the first over for India. 

As a lot of time on Day 2 was lost due to rain, Day 3 will be compensating for it. The play today will begin at 9:45 am. The players are all set to be in action soon. 

After his second Test century, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel spoke on his 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisaan' tattoo following the conclusion of day two play against Sri Lanka at Colombo, calling it a tribute to his roots, with his father being a soldier and grandfather being a farmer.

"That is my story. My grandfather was a farmer and my father was a soldier. Those are my roots, where I came from, and I do not want to forget them. So that celebration was for my father and grandfather," said Jurel. 

"Both players admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for formal hearings," ICC said in a statement.

"Both players were found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka seamer Asitha Fernando were on Monday fined 25 per cent of their match fee for an on-field altercation on day one of the second Test in Colombo. The duo was also handed a demerit point each.

The players were involved in a confrontation after Fernando dismissed Jaiswal in the 17th over of India's first innings. Jaiswal walked towards Fernando and the two exchanged words, following which Fernando moved his head towards Jaiswal. In response, Jaiswal leant in, resulting in their heads making contact.

Dhruv Jurel's century made him the second Indian batter after Pandya to score a Test hundred from No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya had scored 108 at Pallekele in 2017. The last Indian batter to score a Test century from No. 7 or lower was Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made 114 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in December 2024.

Dhruv Jurel struck an unbeaten 115 as India declared their first innings at 503 for 9 before reducing Sri Lanka to eight for two on the second day of the second Test in Colombo Monday. The hosts trail by 495 runs. Opener Lahiru Udara (1) and Prabath Jayasuriya (2) were dismissed by Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar. Kamil Mishara (5 not out) was at the crease at the end of second day's play.
