One of the finest spinners India have ever produced, Harbhajan Singh minced no words as he gave his verdict on the wicket-keeper's role in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. While the likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Dinesh Karthik are fighting for the spot behind the stumps, Harbhajan feels the Rajasthan Royals captain is ahead of the rest in the race. After seeing Samson play crucial role in the Royals' victory against the Mumbai Indians, Harbhajan didn't just advocate his name for the wicket-keeper's role but also backed him to succeed Rohit Sharma as India's T20I skipper.
At present, it's Hardik Pandya who has been designated as the vice-captain in the Indian team for the shortest format. He has also been tipped by many to become India's full-time white-ball captain after Rohit. But, Harbhaajn has some other ideas.
"Yashasvi Jaiswal's knock is a proof of class is permanent. Form is temporary @ybj_19 and there shouldn't be any debate about Keeper batsman. @IamSanjuSamson should walk in to the Indian team for T20 world cup and also groomed as a next T20 captain for India after Rohit . koi shak???", Bhajji wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after RR's 9-wicket win over MI on Monday.

Samson has been in splendid form for the Royals this season while also leading the franchise to the top of the IPL 2024 standings after 8 games. The wicket-keeper batter is currently the second-highest run-scorer for his franchise this term, having accumulated a total of 314 runs from 8 games at an average of 62.80 and a strike-rate of 152.42. He has also scored 3 half-centuries this campaign.
Hardik, in comparison, hasn't done well in the season so far, be it as a batter, bowler or captain.
