Sehwag has retired from all forms of cricket. While many of his contemporaries like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene continue to play T20 cricket around the world, Sehwag will take first step as a full-time backroom staff of an IPL team he served for two years.
Bangar welcomed Sehwag's selection saying: "Sehwag has been an integral part of the KXIP squad over the last two seasons and understands the dynamics of the team very well. With him stepping in as the mentor, the team will immensely benefit from his guidance and advice." (Yuvraj, Ishant Among Marquee Players for IPL 9 Auction)
Sehwag is now part of a T20 league reserved for retired former stars. He is leading a team - Gemini Arabians -- in the first edition of Masters Champions League. On his new role with Kings XI, Sehwag said: "Given the relationship and camaraderie I share with the squad, management and promoters, it feels like I am with my extended family. Being a part of KXIP has always been a special experience and I am looking forward to the upcoming season in my new role."
Kings XI Punjab is held and promoted by a consortium, which includes Mohit Burman, Karan Paul, Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta.
