Suresh Raina will miss the first IPL match in nine years on Saturday. The captain of the Gujarat Lions team is now in the Netherlands for the birth of his first child. Raina married childhood friend Priyanka in April last year.
Raina will miss an IPL milestone on Saturday. He is 15 runs shy of becoming the first batsman to score 4,000 runs in IPL. Of course, Gujarat Lions are almost sure to crack a playoff berth and hence Raina should achieve the landmark this season.
Twenty-nine-year old Raina played all his IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings till CSK were banned for two seasons due to corruption-related issues. Raina was chosen to skipper IPL debutants the Gujarat Lions.
Raina has scored 3699 runs for Chennai and 286 runs for the Lions so far. For CSK, Raina scored one century while his best for GL so far has been an unbeaten 75.
Virat Kohli's Record of 50s at Chinnaswamy Stadium
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's 108 not out for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Rising Pune Supergiants at Bangalore on May 7 was his 14th fifty at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. He now owns the record for most fifties in a single ground.
Kohli shares this T20 record with England's Michael Carberry, who also has scored 14 fifties at Southampton. England's Alex Hales has scored 13 fifties at Nottingham.
