Statistical highlights, 3rd Test: India vs England, Day 5

Here are the statistical highlights of the fifth day's play between India and England at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.


# Since being defeated by South Africa in consecutive Tests - by four wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and by an innings and 71 runs at Bangalore in February/March 2000, India have lost consecutive Tests on Indian soil for the first time - by 10 wickets at Wankhede Stadium and by seven wickets at Eden Gardens.

# England's convincing win by seven wickets is their second against India at Eden Gardens in ten Tests. The last time England won two consecutive Tests in India was  during the 1976-77 Test series, losing three consecutive Tests - by an innings and 25 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla; by 10 wickets at Eden Gardens and by 200 runs at Chepauk.

# Cook enjoys 80% success as captain - four wins out of five Tests.

# Of the last seven Tests played between the two countries, England have won six.

# Since their win by 2-1 in the 1984-85 Test series, England have won two Tests in a series for the first time against India in India.

# Pragyan Ojha, with 19 wickets (25.05), is the leading wicket-taker in the series. Graeme Swann has the next best tally (17) followed by Monty Panesar (16) and Ravichandran Ashwin (11).

# Alastair Cook's match-winning knock (190) fetched him his second Man of the Match award against India - his fifth in Tests.

# Kevin Pietersen has registered his first duck against India - his ninth in Tests.

# Before today's loss, India's last defeat at Eden Gardens was by 46 runs to Pakistan in February 1999.

# India have won 10, lost 9 and drawn 19 out of 38 Tests played at Eden Gardens - success % 26.31.  

# Ravichandran Ashwin's superb unbeaten 91 off 157 balls is his second best innings in Tests - his highest is 103 against West Indies in the 2011-12 Mumbai Test.

# Only six Indian batsmen have recorded more while batting at number eighth position against England than Ashwin.

# Ashwin, for the first time in a Test series, has totalled 200 runs or more and captured ten wickets or more in the same series.

# Alastair Cook, for the second time in Tests, has been stumped - his first instance was after recording a century (106) by Prasanna Jayawardene off Rangana Herath at Lord's last year.

# Cook's twelve hundreds in a winning cause is a record for England in Tests.

# Ashwin and Ojha have shared a stand of 50 for the tenth wicket - India's second highest against England at Eden Gardens, next only to the 51 between Nadkarni and Chandrasekhar in January 1964.
