A professional Australian team knocked the wind out of India and claimed four remaining wickets in an hour to thrash India to a 298-run defeat. With it, the team claimed a whitewash and threw up statistics galore on Saturday.

# Australia won the series 4-0 - their third clean-sweep over India - the first two being 4-0 in 1967-68 and 3-0 in 1999-2000 - all three in Australia.

# For the fourth time, Australia have won four Tests in a series against India - 4-0 in 1947-48; 4-0 in 1967-68, 4-0 in 1991-92 and 4-0 in 2011-12

# India suffered their eighth successive defeat overseas - their worst streak in a single season - four to England followed by four to Australia.

# The last instance when India lost four Tests or more against Australia in Australia was - five between January 25, 1992 and January 4, 2000 - by 38 runs at Adelaide; by 300 runs at Perth in January/February 1992; by 285 runs at Adelaide; by 180 runs at Melbourne and by an innings and 141 runs at Sydney in 1999-00.

# Australia have regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.  They had lost the previous two Test series to India - 2-0 in 2008-09 and 2-0 in 2010-11.

# India have maintained their record of not winning a Test series in Australia.

# Australia have won seven and drawn the remaining
three series out of ten played against India in Australia. 

# Adeaide Test was the only Test which India managed to take to a fifth day in the just concluded series thanks to Michael Clarke's declaration.

# Australia have won 38 and lost 20 out of 82 played against India (Tied 1 and Drawn 23) - winning % 46.34.

# Australia have won six, lost one and drawn three out of ten played against India at Adelaide Oval

# Peter Siddle has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the second time in Tests.  He had received his first MOM award against South Africa for claiming eight for 113 a SCG in January 2009.

# Michael Clarke has received his third Player of the series award in Tests - his first two were against New Zealand in 2008-09 and England in 2009.

# Clarke, with 626 runs at an average of 125.20, is the leading run-getter in the series.

# Ben Hilfenhaus, with 27 wickets at an average of 17.22 is the leading wicket-taker in the series.

# Under Virender Sehwag's captaincy, India lost their first Test.  India had recorded one win each against Sri Lanka (Ahmedabad in 2005-06) and Bangladesh (Chittagong in 2009-10).  The Naper 2008-09 Test against New Zealand could not produce a result.

# Australia have won seven, lost three and drawn two out of twelve played under Michael Clarke's captaincy - winning % 58.33.

# With the Adelaide win, Ricky Ponting has become the first batsman to have recorded 30 Test hundreds in a winning cause. 

# Ponting has also become the first batsman to manage 9000 runs in a winning cause in Tests - 9059 at an average of 60.39 in 106 Tests, including 30 centuries and 41 fifties.
