The tri-nation series now moves to Trinidad, where the next match is between India and West Indies at Port-of-Spain on Friday, July 5. India need two big wins to keep their chances alive of making it to the final.

03:57 (IST): Quotes from the presentation:

Virat Kohli - "Tough day at the office, we were not up to the mark with the ball. Sri Lankans batted really well, and we did not. To chase down 349, you need a quick start, we were not able to do that, that did not give us momentum. This loss is a reality check for us, we have to sit together and analyse what we did wrong. We have two more games to go. This is going to hurt the team a little bit."

Angelo Mathews - "Mahela showed his class and we played all-round good cricket. We needed to get 250 and I knew our bowlers wouldn't let us down even defending that. I am doing my bit, hopefully I'll continue."

Upul Tharanga - "I was playing in the team after six months. Mahela batted really well today, that helped me a lot. After I got the hundred, we had only 12-13 overs and nine wickets remaining, so I had to go for the big hits and luckily I connected. After the Champions Trophy, winning a game against India is a big thing, this century will help me a lot as well."

03:43 (IST): Final Wicket: So game's over as Lasith Malinga castles India's No.11 Umesh Yadav. Ravindra Jadeja is stranded at 49 not out. India go down by 161 runs and Sri Lanka get a bonus point. India end up with 187 all out in 44.5 overs in response to Sri Lanka's 348/1 in 50 overs.

03:36 (IST) STAT: India have just lost two of the last 10 ODIs vs Sri Lanka. The last ODI which Sri Lanka won was way back on July 24, 2012 at Hambantota, when the hosts triumphed by 9 wickets.

03:22 (IST): Ninth Wicket - Ishant Sharma is out caught by Kumar Sangakkara behind the stumps off Rangana Herath. Lanka continue to strike and India are just going through the motions. Will Jadeja and Umesh Yadav bat out the full 50 overs?

03:08 (IST): Eighth Wicket - Out first ball, is Shami Ahmed, clean bowled. Senanayake pushed his carrom-ball through and Shami had no answer to it. India now staring at a huge defeat.

03:06 (IST): Seventh Wicket - R Ashwin had a little too much to do in these overs, and goes for reverse sweep off Senanayake, only to be caught by Lasith Malinga at short third man. Mohd Shami Ahmed comes in.

02:49 (IST): Sixth Wicket - Suresh Raina is unfortunately run out. His 34-ball 33 was the best innings by an Indian in the big run chase so far. Attempting a run on an overthrow, Raina dragged his bat in at the non-striker's end, Mathews removed the bails and Raina's bat had crossed the crease but was found in the air. The third decision says it is out, much to delight of the Caribbean supporters at Sabina Park.

02:23 (IST): Fifth Wicket - Dinesh Karthik is out stumped by Kumar Sangakkara off Rangana Herath. The carrom-ball working for Herath this time and the right-hander goes for wild swipe across the line and misses the ball. Karthik hit 22 from 41 balls and could only manage two fours.

02:15 (IST): The required run rate goes over 10 now and things looking extremely bleak for India. In 28 overs of the run chase India have just managed 10 fours. Its close to desperation time for Karthik and Raina.

01:54 (IST): Suresh Raina hits a flowing cover drive off Lasith Malina in the 21st over to make sure India reach a batting run rate of 4 runs per over for the first time in the 349-run chase. The required run-rate though has gone past 9 an over now. India basically need a boundary an over to keep their chase on track.

01:41 (IST): Fourth Wicket - Murali Vijay gets clean bowled, guess by who? By Lasith Malinga, in his first over. A near perfect yorker by the Slinga and Vijay, beaten by pace, ends up missing it. Vijay tried his best but could not get past 30 runs from 46 balls. Suresh Raina is in to give company to Dinesh Karthik.

01:25 (IST): Third Wicket - A rare failure from Virat Kohli against Sri Lanka. Mathews digs the ball in and Kohli impulsively goes for a hook and finds Lasith Malinga at the long leg boundary. Talking of Malinga, he has had a bowl yet and India are three down already. Dinesh Karthik is the new-man in.

01:18 (IST): Second Wicket: Shikhar Dhawan falls against the run of play. Dhawan comes down the track to Rangana Herath and finds Upul Tharanga in the deep mid wicket fence. Lucky break for Sri Lanka and India continue to fall behind the asking rate.

01:05 (IST): 11 overs gone and India still 30 for 1. Dhawan and Vijay are playing the the spin of Sachithra Senayake with caution. The required run rate goes over 8 an over now.

00:50 (IST): First sign of some momentum from India as Shikhar Dhawan gets two fours off Nuwan Kulasekara in the 7th over.

00:38 (IST): First Wicket - Rohit Sharma is out. He tried to flick the ball towards mid wicket but found Angelo Mathews at the catching position at short mid-wicket and Nuwan Kulasekara draws first blood for the Lankans.

00:30 (IST): Angelo Mathews shares the new ball with Nuwan Kulasekara and a steady start for the Sri Lankan medium pacers. Nothing fancy from the Indian openers - Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Surprisingly, Murali Vijay a specialist opener in the squad is not out there in the middle.

23:50 (IST): So Sri Lanka pile up a massive score (348/1) after some insipid death bowling by India and a career-best effort by Upul Tharanga. Angelo Mathews (29-ball 44*) smartly promoted himself up the order and shared an enterprising 135-run stand in 68 balls with Tharanga.

23:40 (IST): Tharanga raises his 150 up as Sri Lanka are looking at a massive score having already scored 313/1 in 48 overs. The two batsmen - Tharanga and Mathews have registered a 100-run stand in just 56 balls.

23:30 (IST): 55 runs have come in the overs 42-46 as both Upul Tharanga and Angelo Mathews are taking the Indian bowlers apart. Tharanga has gone past his ODI best of 133 and have registered 16 fours and a six. Mathews too is on the attack in the 50-plus stand, hitting 2 fours and a six.

23:14 (IST): Sri Lanka on the attack now - go past 250-run mark in the 43rd over.

23:04 (IST): Tharanga gets to his 13th ODI hundred with a flick down towards mid-on. Tharanga has 28 fifties to his name as well.

22:54 (IST): FIRST WICKET - The partnership is finally over, probably one shot too many by Mahela Jayawardene, who went for a reverse sweep off Ashwin after hitting the previous ball for six over extra cover. Umesh Yadav does an excellent job at short third man, running to his right and taking the catch. So India get the much-needed breakthrough.

22:50 (IST): Upul Tharanga dropped by R Ashwin at sweeper cover off Ishant Sharma. Tharanga was on 91 then. Indians have been below par in the field today, something that may hurt them later. STAT: This is now the best opening stand for Sri Lanka against India in ODIs.

22:47 (IST): Mahela Jayawardene scores his 16th ODI hundred as Sri Lanka go past 200-run mark in the 38th over. Mahela's partner Tharanga is not far behind.

22:37 (IST): STAT - This is now Sri Lanka's 2nd best ODI opening stand at a neutral venue after the 201 that Jayasuriya-Sangakkara shared against Bangladesh at Karachi in 2008.

22:28 (IST): An appeal for stumped by Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja goes to the third umpire. Mahela's foot in the replay seen grounded inside the crease and the green light comes on.

22:14 (IST): India running out of ideas now - a return spell for Umesh Yadav and an over from Suresh Raina - nothing seems to be working for them as the two openers go past 150-run stand after 31 overs.

22:04 (IST): STAT: Upul Tharanga and Mahela Jayawardene have shared the highest opening stand in ODIs at Sabina Park, Kingston. Interestingly, As opening batsmen, Mahela has a higher average and strike rate than Sachin Tendulkar.

21:54 (IST): 25 overs are up at the halfway stage and still no signs of a wicket for Team India. The Lanka openers are in cruise control mode and are now milking the bowling. Without taking a single risk, they are leisurely going at over 5 an over for the past 5-6 overs.

21:49 (IST): Upul Tharanga celebrates his return to the Sri Lankan side with a fifty - his 29th in ODI cricket.

21:43 (IST): What happened there? Virat Kohli in some pain here, seems to have injured his groin, while fielding in the 23rd over. Kohli is lying flat on the ground and getting some treatment from the physio. But all is fine now as Kohli is back on his feet after a couple of minutes, continues at the helm on the field.

Live cricket score: India vs Sri Lanka, tri-series21:36 (IST): Mahela brings up his 71st fifty in ODIs with a trademark chip over extra cover off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja.

21: 23 (IST): Jayawardene approaching his 71st century. Has shown a lot more application in this innings than what was seen from him against West Indies, or even against India in the Champions Trophy semis. So far, he has four boundaries and a six. Of course, fortune favours the brave and it favoured him when he was dropped earlier.

21:13 (IST): First six of the day comes off the blade of Mahela Jayawardene, in the 16th over. Mahela walks down the pitch and lofts Ishant high and handsome over deep mid wicket for the maximum. Two balls later, Umesh Yadav misjudges an airy pull by Mahela at the long leg fence and the ball trickles past the boundary for four.

21:00 (IST): Mahela Jayawardene gets dropped by Murali Vijay. In the first over of spin of the day, Mahela went for a reverse shot against Jadeja and the ball flew to backward point where Murali Vijay grassed a sharp chance. A lucky break for Mahela, now will he make it count?

Live cricket score: India vs Sri Lanka, tri-series20:47 (IST): Upul Tharanga reaches 5000 runs in ODI cricket. He is the ninth Sri Lankan to do so. Tharanga averages 33 in 163 previous ODIs and has 28 fifties and 12 hundreds to his name.

20:35 (IST): Lankan openers are making the moves, especially against the pace of Umesh Yadav. Jayawardene and Tharanga have scored two fours each off Umesh's last overs.

20:20 (IST): First four of the day comes from the blade of Upul Tharanga, albeit with a little bit of help from Ishant Sharma at the third man boundary. Tharanga cuts Umesh Yadav and Ishant runs to his left and is unable to stop the ball inside the ropes.

20:11 (IST): India miss a chance to run Upul Tharanga out. The left hander stroked it towards square leg and set off for a single, which wasn't there. Rohit Sharma from the position fails to hit the stumps directly and the opening batsman gets a reprieve.

Live cricket score: India vs Sri Lanka, tri-series20:01 (IST): So Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga are out there to open the batting for Sri Lanka. Shami Ahmed takes the new ball. Interestingly, Mahela is sporting a french beard has he takes dummy guard at non-striker's end.

19:48 (IST): Ravindra Jadeja, before the game, says: "In England I had a good Champions Trophy. We are playing well as a unit. In this series too we have come with the same thinking, even if we lost the first game, we are looking to do consistently well in all departments. Trevor Penny trains us hard during our fielding drills, be it throwing or catching. Penny does about 25-30 throw downs per player during a session. For me, the last Ranji Trophy season was the turning point, and I got to learn what I needed to work on when I was out of team. The reason behind my moustache is my family background. We are Rajputs and all the elder men in my family sport this moustache so i thought its time I also try it."

India (Playing XI): Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shami Ahmed, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Upul Tharanga, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara(w), Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews(c), Lahiru Thirimanne, Kushal Janith Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga.

19:40 (IST): Angelo Mathews at the toss: "I would have bowled first too. The pitch does look a little damp. It's not going to be easy out there. The batsmen have a big challenge here. It's important that we win as we have not been playing well against India."

19:38 (IST): Virat Kohli at the toss: "The wicket behaved differently in the second half of the game vs West Indies. It is a proud moment for me to lead the side. I just wanted to play the game and now I get to captain. I'm grateful to the team management and selection panel to find me worthy for the job. The pressure is always there. We just want to focus on the basics as we play."

19:34 (IST): India win the all important toss and opt to bowl against Sri Lanka. India are playing Murali Vijay and Shami Ahmed in the eleven, in place of MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. For Sri Lanka, both Ajantha and Jeevan Mendis are out, Kusal Perera and Sachithra Senanayake are getting a game.

Pitch conditions: It's overcast and windy. The surface is the same one that was used in the first two games but the cracks aren't as wide as they were earlier as there is moisture on the track. There might be showers later on and the team that wins the toss would look to bowl first.

India vs Sri Lanka Preview:

Their unbeaten run brought to a halt, India would look to get over the disappointment of a narrow loss when they take on familiar sub-continental foes Sri Lanka in their second match of the tri-nation ODI series on Tuesday.

The one-wicket loss to the West Indies on Sunday ended India's nine-match winning streak during which they lifted the Champions trophy in London last month. India had won four Tests against Australia and five matches in the recent Champions Trophy on the trot.

Tested by the conditions, the famed Indian batting struggled and even though the team's bowlers did a commendable job, the hosts managed to snatch a win by the thinnest of margins.

On a pitch which did not exactly help stroke-making, Rohit Sharma shone with a patient half century.

Promoted to the role of opener during the Champions Trophy, Sharma seems at ease in the position and would be expected to come good against the Lankans too.

Tri-Series: Live Cricket Score: India vs Sri Lanka But the troika of Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik found the going tough in the tournament-opener and will have to adapt quickly to make an impact.

Suresh Raina, however, applied himself well for a 44 that was crucial to take India past 200.

The bowlers did their job commendably and could have pulled it off for India had they been given more runs to defend.

The pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma got the breakthroughs whenever they were given the ball and were ably supported by off-spinner R Ashwin, who also grabbed a couple of wickets.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, were quite literally mauled in their opening match. They just about managed to post a little over 200 and were then left to contend with a raging Chris Gayle, who unleashed his fury in the most devastating manner.

The shock of that defeat would be difficult to get over for the island nation and it would be interesting to see how they cope with the prospect of having to contain a strong Indian line-up.

The over-reliance on senior batsmen Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara once again stood exposed with no batsman, apart from Angelo Mathews, contributing significantly in the previous match. The Lankans would have to strike as a unit as individual brilliance cannot shine through in every game.
