New Zealand left-arm seamer Trent Boult was ruled out Thursday of the upcoming one-day series against England and is now set to miss the subsequent Champions Trophy tournament as well.
Boult suffered a side injury during New Zealand's 247-run second Test defeat at Headingley, concluded Tuesday, and bowled just two overs in England's second innings.
An MRI scan on Wednesday confirmed the initial diagnosis of a muscle tear in Boult's right side, ruling him out of a three-match series with England starting at Lord's on Friday and featuring matches in Southampton (Sunday) and Nottingham (Wednesday).
In a New Zealand statement, Blackcaps physiotherapist Paul Close said he expected Boult to make a full recovery in six to eight weeks.
That would sideline the paceman from the Champions Trophy, where New Zealand play their first match against Sri Lanka in Cardiff on June 9.
