Jalandhar:
Defending champions Railways retained the coveted National Women's Hockey Champion title, thrashing a hapless Punjab 6-0 in the final of the 51st edition in Jalandhar on Sunday.
In the 30th minute, Railways' Manjinder Kaur got the ball on the right flank and gave a cross to Jyoti who was standing near the goalpost. The ever-alert Jyoti successfully deflected it in as Railways tightened their stranglehold over their rivals.
The score read 3-0 in favour of Railways at half-time.
More miseries were in store for the already battered Punjab team as Railways were relentless in their attack in the second session and the fourth goal came in 38th minute when Henmanjinder Kaur successfully converted a penalty corner.
Jyoti, who impressed with her performance throughout the tournament, again displayed her excellent stick work and outwitted the rival defenders time and again. It was Jyoti who made it 5-0 by converting a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute.
Railways, already sniffing victory, completed the formalities by scoring their sixth goal through Suraj Lata, who converted a penalty corner in the 55th minute. (PTI)
