Indy Racing: Bourdais sets new record

Danver:

Two-time defending champion Sebastien Bourdais set a track record with a time of 59.096 seconds in qualifying for the Grand Prix of Denver on Saturday. In breaking Paul Tracy's mark of 59.432 set last year, Bourdais captured his sixth pole of the Indy Racing League season and 24th overall. He's in eighth place on the career list, just one behind Tracy. It is not bad considering the Frenchman hit the wall on Saturday. The car was undamaged."It wasn't that hard, just a little brush,'' said Bourdais.AJ Allmendinger broke the track record as well - turning in a time of 59.350 - but it lasted only a matter of minutes."They (Forsythe racing) give me a great car to drive,'' Allmendinger said. "I would give anything to start this year over with this team. I think we would've really had something.''Allmendinger thought he had something with RuSPORT. But it didn't work out and the American was cut loose. However, he quickly went from rock bottom to cloud nine. He proposed to his fiancee, Lynne Kushnirenko, the next day.A few days later, Forsythe Championship Racing picked him up after they severed ties with Mexican driver Mario Dominguez. (AP)
