BMW Sauber F1 car races on ice

To mark the 100th anniversary of the "White Turf" horse races in St Moritz, the Formula One car from the BMW Sauber F1 Team appeared on the frozen Lake of St Moritz. The European Snow Meeting was held on Sunday and the large crowd was treated to horsepower of a different kind. Nick Heidfeld took his BMW Sauber F1 car around a few laps of the ice track, conditions very different to those on normal racing circuits. On a set of spiked tyres, the German driver enjoyed his spin in this unique sporting arena. And to ensure everything went to plan, Sauber brought along on site over 800 kilograms of equipment while special tyres were developed with spikes. Low temperatures provided an additional challenge with team technicians having to warm the engine every half hour and also fit special radiator covers to stop the block from freezing. The large crowd was treated to horsepower of a different kind as the German driver put the car through its paces on the circuit. (With AP inputs)
