Kolkata:
A move is afoot to bring star-studded Real Madrid to India in August.
The Spanish Club, which has in its ranks celebrated footballers like Luis Figo, Raul Gonzalez, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Zinedine Zidane, has been invited by a management institute to play a match in India on their return trip from Japan and China.
"If everything goes according to plan, they may play in India on August 12 or 14," Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management director Ashoke Dutta told newspersons at a press conference.
Dutta said that he had spoken to the Spanish club's agent recently and hoped the draft contract would be signed in the next 10 days.
He admitted though that many more hurdles were to be crossed before the project materialised.
"That's the reason we have not informed the All India Football Federation about the move," Dutta said.
Asked whether they have managed to rope in any sponsors as the Spanish club was likely to demand an astronomical amount, he said, "We have made it clear to them that we cannot give them as much as they got from China and Japan." (PTI)
