Sreesanth and the Australians may not completely agree with this but in Italy the Ancona football club is embarking on a mission to promote spirituality and fair play in the game.

Their efforts have an appreciative audience in none other than the Pope.

The initiative has been welcomed in the country since it has been dogged by incidents of crowd violence and match fixing over the last one year.

The Ancona football club's are signing a code of ethics to play the game in the right spirit and be transparent in their financial dealings.

The Pope said, "I greet the delegation of the Centro Sportivo Italiano (CSI) and the AC Ancona and I encourage them so that the game of soccer can become more and more an instrument of education to life's ethical and spiritual values."

The code of ethics is being drafted by Italy's main catholic sports body the CSI, and the aim is to make Ancona an ethical model of practicing football.

Its s a welcome change from last year's turmoil in Italian football scene that saw champion Juventus being stripped of his title after a match-fixing probe.
