Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal says he would be "disappointed" if he gets to know that the English football club's management have held meetings with Portuguese Jose Mourinho about possibly replacing him. (Louis Van Gaal Dismisses Jose Mourinho-Manchester United Reports)
After being sacked by Chelsea earlier this season, Mourinho has been strongly linked to United, who have had a rocky campaign and are presently sixth in the Premier League points table.
"Then I shall be disappointed," van Gaal was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Friday when asked how would he feel if his club officials tell him about links with Mourinho.
The Dutchman, however, said that the owners and vice-chairman Ed Woodward would have told him if any meetings had occurred.
"In a football world that is possible, I know, but I do not think that. I have a relationship with Ed and the Glazers, they tell me, I think," he said.
Van Gaal has been able to get his side back to some kind of form in the past few weeks and when it was suggested that a fourth-place finish would qualify as a decent campaign, he said: "I think so, but that analysis has to be made by the board and maybe also by the media.
"You have to always look at the circumstances, how you have to work, and this board is doing that. In two games you can be level with your competitor. That is the benefit of this system of three points."
