Zaheer Khan of India and Jonathan Trott of England have been nominated, amongst others, in the LG ICC Awards, 2011. Interestingly, injury has hounded both the players in recent months leaving their teams to look for urgent replacements in the ongoing Test series in England.
The awards, which also features Test and ODI team of the year, acknowledges and rewards commendable performances. Both Zaheer and Trott are part of a list which includes MS Dhoni, Kumar Sangakkara, Shane Watson, Graeme Swann, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers. nominations were made by a five-man ICC selection panel chaired by former West Indies captain and current chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee Clive Lloyd.
The awards have been categorised under different categories including cricketer of the year, Test player of the year, ODI player of the year and woman player of the year, to be adjudged for matches played between August 11, 2010 and August 3, 2011. "It is a chance to look back on some of the great cricketing feats witnessed in the past year, including from our flagship event, the ICC Cricket World Cup. This will be the eighth Awards edition," said ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.
The ceremony will take place in London, on September 12.
