West Indies and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell could face a two-year ban from international cricket for missing three doping tests within a 12-month period. The 28-year-old Jamaican will face a hearing next week.
ICC T20 World Cup wining-Russell is currently playing for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. He is allegedly in violation of the 'whereabouts clause' and will be questioned by an independent anti-doping disciplinary panel, according to Russell's lawyer Patrick Foster.
The violation was confirmed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) in March.
World Anti-Doping Agency rules state athletes must inform their local anti-doping agency, in this case JADCO, where they will be for at least one hour each day to facilitate drug tests.
If an athlete misses three doping checks within a 12-month period that counts as a positive test.
If Russell is punished, he will be missed by former IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Russell also plies his trade in the Australian Big Bash for Sydney Thunder and Pakistan Super League team Islamabad United.
