It's a huge honour for Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara has become the best Test batsman of the world displacing the seemingly invincible Ricky Ponting.

Sri Lanka now have the best Test batsman in the world and the best Test bowler since Muttiah Muralitharan is the top ranked Test bowler.

Sangakkara's leap frogged the Australian captain after his sensational 92 and 152 in the Kandy Test.

The first innings effort was truly special because Sri Lanka were at 42 for five on the first day of that test against England.

In five Tests this year, the left-hander has scored 921 runs with four hundreds and two half centuries. Only Jacques Kallis has scored more runs but he has played eight Tests.
