Sachin Tendulkar's on-field journey ended almost three years back, but his on-screen journey started on Thursday with the teaser launch of his biopic 'Sachin - A Billion Dreams'. (Sachin Tendulkar Unveils Poster Of His Biopic On Twitter)
Tendulkar is making his acting debut with the film, which is being directed by Emmy-nominated British director James Erskine. A.R. Rahman is the music director of the film. The movie's release date has not yet been announced.
In the teaser, with a voice-over from Sachin Tendulkar himself, the batting genius recounts his journey from a middle-class family in Mumbai to being arguably the most-loved cricketer on the planet.
In an emotional tone, Tendulkar talks about his father's influence on him.
"My father always told me, you have chosen cricket, (but) that is just one chapter in your life. Something that will stay permanently with you is the person you are," he says.
As the voice-over goes on, the following words appear on screen - 'From a wild child to a virtuous hero, one man united his country.' Though Sachin Tendulkar himself makes a brief appearance in a blue T-shirt alongside a beach, his face is not properly visible, as he is seen with his back to the camera.
Tendulkar, with a biopic, has joined the likes of cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin, whose biopics are also in the pipeline.
A Mumbai-based production company 200NotOut is making the movie. The retired batsman, who played 200 Tests and scored 100 international centuries across all formats of the game, retired in 2013. He scored 34,357 runs played in the 664 international matches that he played.
Awarded India's highest civilian honour - the Bharat Ratna - last year, Tendulkar is a sitting Rajya Sabha MP.
