Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels' achievements are nowhere near Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, but that was before Monday. The English duo broke the Indian pair's 17-year-old record of highest partnership in an one-day game in England.
Playing for Nottinghamshire against Northamptonshire, opening pair Lumb and Wessels scored 342 in 39.2 overs in a List A match of the Royal London One-Day Cup at Trent Bridge. Their feat broke the 318-run partnership record of Ganguly and Dravid, set during the 1999 World Cup against Sri Lanka in Taunton.
The partnership finally ended when Wessels fell to Stephen Crook for 146.
Lumb and Wessels fell short of breaking Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels' all-time record of highest one-day stand by 30 runs. The West Indies combine had notched a 372-run partnership against Zimbabwe at Manuka Oval in the 2015 World Cup.
After Wessels' departure, Lumb went on to score 184 as Nottinghamshire notched 445 for eight in 50 overs.
While the 36-year-old Lumb has played three ODIs and 27 T20Is for England, the 30-year-old Wessels is yet to make his debut.

Nottinghamshire's 445/8 was the second-highest total in List A matches worldwide, bettered only by Surrey's 496 for four against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007.

In reply, Northamptonshire came close and were all out of 425, despite Rory Kleinveldt's 128 and Adam Rossington's 97.

Northamptonshire's effort meant that the aggregate runs touched 870 -- highest ever in List A matches in England and the second-highest ever.
It was two short of the highest aggregate runs ever in an one-day game. That feat still belongs to the historic match between Australia and South Africa, where the latter chased down a target of 435 in 2006.
