Rain was the ultimate winner in AB de Villers' 200th ODI as the South Africa vs Australia tri-nation match was washed out after only one over was bowled at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Sunday.
The SA vs AUS match was meant to be a celebratory occasion for captain de Villiers but intermittent showers left him and the rest of the team frustrated.
This after the toss and match started on schedule with the South Africans losing the toss and being asked to bat first. Fast bowler Morne Morkel was named in the starting XI for the first time this series ahead of spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.
After just one over and eight runs of the SA vs AUS encounter, the heavy cloud cover finally relented and the rain arrived. It hung around long enough for the players not to return as the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
It means that South Africa moved to 12 points, one ahead of Australia and four clear of the West Indies. The Proteas were also denied the chance of booking their place in Sunday's final - a win would have secured that.
South Africa must now play the hosts in their final game of the regular competition at the same venue on Friday.
