Former BCCI president and secretary Jagmoham Dalmiya is set to become Board chief once again. The Cricket Association of Bengal boss is the lone nomination for the post of President, according to sources. Dalmiya's position will be ratified by the Board at its Annual General Meeting in Chennai on Monday.
Dalmiya emerged the strongest candidate after garnering the maximum support of the six East Zone units, whose turn it is to propose a new President. Till Saturday night, the names of BJP MP and Board Joint Secretary Anurag Thakur was doing the rounds with former BCCI chief Sharad Pawar also in the frame. Sources reveal Dalmiya has won the backing of the East Zone members and inspite of his ailing health, will regain the top post in Indian cricket administration.
Thakur is also set for a prime position in BCCI. The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association boss is likely to become the BCCI secretary and replace incumbent Sanjay Patel. But Patel - an N. Srinivasan loyalist - may still contest for the Secretary's position, according to sources. It may be remembered that Srinivasan had pulled out of the elections after Supreme Court had rebuked him for disobeying its order of chairing a BCCI working committee meeting on February 8.
