He already co-owns a football team in Kerala and on Tuesday, Sachin Tendulkar gave the 35th National Games in God's Own Country a rapturous start. The retired cricket legend led thousands of runners on the streets of Thiruvananthapuram as part of 'Run Kerala Run,' a promotional event for the 35th National Games that kicks off in various venues of the state on January 31.
Tendulkar is the brand ambassador for the Games. Kerala is hosting the Games for the second time after 1987. An excited Tendulkar took selfies with fans and ran along Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, his Cabinet colleagues and celebrities from various walks of life.
The National Games have lost their charm over the years. With most top athletes giving the event a skip, most disciplines miss attraction. However, Tendulkar's presence will inject some life in the Games, the same way the former batting star drilled in a lot of enthusiasm in his football team, Kerala Blasters, which made the final of the inaugural Indian Super League tournament.
