N. Srinivasan Acted Against Guilty Player: BCCI Tells Supreme Court
While Justice Mukul Mudgal report said N. Srinivasan failed to act against guilty IPL players, BCCI in its affidavit has denied the same.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday, filed an affidavit in Supreme Court and said that action against player No. 3 (unnamed) had been taken for violating Code of Conduct. This is in contradiction to Justice Mukul Mudgal's IPL probe report which said N. Srinivasan and other Board officials did nothing despite being aware of guilty players. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 24.
Interestingly, the player in question was cautioned during a tour to Sri Lanka and not during IPL. (Top 10 developments)
BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel in his affidavit said the following:
- on 18th (November), BCCI discussed Justice Mudgal Panel report and Ranjib Biswal, representing Orissa cricket Association, who was the Manager at the time of incident, mentioned that the incident referred to by the panel took place when he was the manager of the Indian cricket team. - the incident was a minor one and player was orally reprimanded and Sashank Manohar, President of BCCI at that time was satisfied with the explanation given by the player.
On Monday, it was revealed that the Mudgal report submitted to the Supreme Court said that Srinivasan was aware of Code of Conduct violations. "This individual along with four other BCCI officials was aware of the violation of the Players Code of Conduct by Individual 3 (unnamed player), but no action was taken against Individual 3 by any of the aforesaid officials who were aware of this infraction."
The top court had asked Srinivasan to step aside as BCCI boss till investigations into the scandal were completed.
After a November 14 hearing, Srinivasan had claimed that he was "clean" and should not be punished for Meiyappan's alleged misdeeds. "The honourable Supreme Court has not said anything against me. I also do not think there is any evidence against me. If there was anything against me, the (court) order would have been different," Srinivasan had said in an interview.
