Battling a prolonged phase of bad form, India cricketer Virat Kohli has turned to Sachin Tendulkar for urgent help. With 134 runs from 10 Test innings against England on the recent tour, the 25-year-old batsman has visibly struggled in the middle and is now practicing in the nets under the watchful gaze of Tendulkar.
According to a report in The Hindustan Times, Kohli - who has always said that Tendulkar inspired him to become a cricketer - requested the legendary batsman to help correct his erroneous batting and help him return to form. Kohli has been practicing at the Mumbai Cricket Association's indoor facility and Tendulkar has reportedly been by his side.
"Virat was here for an intense session today. Sachin was present too. He is going to come in for practice over the next two-three days as well," former India coach Lalchand Rajput was quoted as saying. "Since Virat had time, he felt he could come and just stay in touch. He worked on his off-stump game. We will have a better idea about how his form is in a couple of days, though international players don't take time." (Kohli Shatters Indian T20 Records)
Kohli though has struggled for quite some time - the entire England tour to be precise. While experts like former India opener Sunil Gavaskar told NDTV that bad form is part and parcel of a batsman's career, the Delhi batsman's continued struggle to find runs has armed his critics to the teeth.
While Kohli has been criticised for his on-field showing, he was also slammed for having girlfriend - Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma - by his side during the early part of the England tour.
While Anushka left England shores, bad form stayed on.
Desperate to come out of the slump, Kohli couldn't have asked for a more capable mentor than Tendulkar. With 15921 Test runs and another 18426 in ODIs, Tendulkar can surely fast-track Kohli's return to form.
