Modi to reply to second showcause notice today

Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Kumar Modi will send his reply to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI's) second showcause notice today.

Modi's legal adviser Mehmood Abdi said the reply would be sent via e-mail and a hard copy, which is expected to be a two dozen-page document that would be submitted at the BCCI headquarters.

Meanwhile, there is no respite for Lalit Modi as the BCCI slammed the third showcause notice on him. The latest notice served to him is over grant of theatrical rights and on the issue of advertisements in between deliveries during the telecast of IPL matches this season.

According to sources, the 150-second airtime slot, when the ball was not in play, which the IPL had sold, did not bring in the promised financial benefits to the Board. It was on Modi's suggestion that the 150 seconds slot was commercially exploited.

Modi has already been served two notices. The first notice was sent soon after the conclusion of IPL 3 after he was suspended from his post by the BCCI and the second one was served on May 6 based on an e-mail sent to the Board by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Chairman Giles Clarke.

In his e-mail, Clarke levelled serious charges against Modi that the Board found "detrimental to Indian cricket, English cricket and World cricket at large."
