Modi files another petition against BCCI in Bombay HC

Mumbai:

Suspended IPL Chairman Lalit Modi has filed a fresh petition against the disciplinary committee formed by the BCCI to look into the alleged financial irregularities committed by him.

Modi's lawyer Mehmood Abdi said that Modi has challenged the committee's order on August 11 this year.

BCCI rejected his demand for the recusal of Chirayu Amin and Arun Jaitley from the disciplinary panel investigating the charges of financial irregularities against him. (Read: BCCI dismisses Modi's demand for recusal of Amin, Jaitley)

"The request of Mr Lalit Modi for recusal of certain members of the Disciplinary Committee is rejected," the BCCI had said in a statement.

He also said that Modi has sought a stay to the proceedings in the meanwhile. The High Court would hear Modi's petition on September 13.

Modi's lawyer Mehmood Abdi had threatened to move BCCI to court after the decision and his client has now decided to take cricket's governing body in the country head on by filing this writ petition in the Bombay High Court.

Earlier in a move that can be viewed as cutting down the vast powers enjoyed previously by the Indian Premier League, the Cricket Board decided to limit the IPL Governing Council's tenure from five years to one.

The BCCI is all set to make this important change at its AGM on September 29 in the wake of the scandal which engulfed the now suspended Lalit Modi-led IPL, a sub-committee of the Board, and bring it on par with its other sub-committees, revealed a top source on Wednesday.
