The partnership which was building nicely has been broken. It is the sucker ball which does the trick. Full and outside off, Root goes to drive but does not get his front foot towards the pitch of the delivery, he ends up edging it to Holder at second slip. 142.2 OUT! TAKEN! Roach finally, finally gets a wicket. He has had to wait for more than 4 innings to do so. He deserves it. He has been continuously running in, giving it his all with a smile, this should make him feel a lot better. He bowls this one outside off and it is on a length. Stokes looks to play the reverse sweep but the ball kisses the glove and goes to the keeper. An appeal and up goes the finger. End of a superb innings from Stokes. He misses out on a double ton but we are pretty sure that wasn't on his mind.  395/6

129.5 OUT! LBW! That is plumb in front! Pope goes back for a low score. He misses a straight ball there. It is on middle, Pope goes back and looks to defend. He fails to put bat on ball and is struck on the pad. An appeal and up goes the finger.  352/5

68.1 OUT! Caught & Bowled! Stokes is the man, once again! He kept bowling the short stuff and has got the reward. This one is not as short as the other ones but Brathwaite is on the back foot as he tries to work it on the leg side. He though ends up getting a leading edge and the ball balloons towards Stokes. A simple chance for him and he accepts it. They check for the legality of the ball but Stokes is fine. A fine knock from Brathwaite comes to an end.  199/4

9.4 OUT! THREE REDS! Campbell is a goner! An excellent bowling change from Root! Curran has this habit of picking up a wicket when his team needs it. Just 4 balls into his first over and he gets rid of one opener. Excellent review too! Curran bowls it full and around off, it shapes in a touch. He got this one to come in after taking the last two away. Campbell looks to drive but there are two noises. It has hit the pad for sure but is it bat-pad or pad and pad? England appeal and the umpire feels its the former and shakes his head. England review. Replays show it is front pad and back pad. Time for the Hawk Eye and it shows the on-field call has to be overturned. Another low score for Campbell, England would like one more before Stumps.  16/1

24.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Bess comes and makes an impact straightaway. The night watchman who was technically not out for a whole day has to go. Quicker off spinner on middle and leg, Joseph looks to defend but it goes off the inner half of the bat uppishly to the right of short leg. Pope there shows great reflexes and takes a very good catch. Alzarri's inning comes to an end and England finally have a breakthrough.  70/2

45.4 OUT! Caught! Shai Hope departs and England have started the new session the way they would have been hoping for. Just the third over into the new session and Sam Curran has got rid of Shai Hope. Good bowling from the young English all-rounder. He has a knack of picking wickets and he has done just that. Good length ball just outside off, Hope gets on his front foot and looks to defend but the ball straightens and kisses the outside edge of the bat and goes straight to Jos Buttler behind the stumps. He takes an easy catch and the budding stand is broken.  123/3

Brooks is late in getting his bat down to work it on the leg side and gets pinned in front of the stumps. Broad and co. appeal and the umpire raises the finger quickly. Second batsman to fall in the 50s for West Indies. A solid innings nonetheless from him. They are still 28 behind from avoiding the follow-on.  242/5

Another very good ball from Woakes and he has his second of the innings. Full and quick around off, Chase looks to defend but misses due to the pace and the movement. He gets hit on the pads but there is some noise. England players appeal but the umpire turns it down. Root has a word with Woakes and decides to take it upstairs. Big wicket for the hosts here not just because Blackwood is a dangerous man but also because England now have their tail up. After bowling shorter, Broad goes a bit fuller on off, the ball stays a bit low off the deck. Blackwood looks to defend but the low bounce does him and he hears the awful sound of the timber. 86.3 OUT! LBW! Pitching in line and hitting the stumps. So, the review does not save Dowrich. He goes for a duck as well. Broad is making the new ball talk and causing trouble here for West Indies. A length ball angled in from just outside off, Dowrich tries to flick it off his back foot but misses to get hit on the pads. An appeal follows and the umpire agrees. Dowrich takes it upstairs. Let's see if he can survive. The front foot is fine. Any bat? No, confirms the Ultra Edge. Pitching in line and hitting the wickets. So, Dowrich has to go and he takes one review along with him. First wicket of the game for Woakes and it is the big one of the West Indies skipper. Excellent bowling from Woakes. He bowls it around off, in the channel of uncertainty and makes it shape a tad. Just enough to trouble Holder. He looks to defend but gets a thick outside edge to first slip. The English skipper, judges it well and takes a good catch.  260/8

Woakes smartly takes the pace off this one and bowls it on a length, Gabriel looks to defend but gets deceived by the lack of pace. The ball also moves away a bit, squaring up Gabriel and hitting the off pole. West Indies bowled out for 287! Trail by 182.  287/10

0.4 OUT! DRAGGED ON! Buttler goes for a duck and the plan to open with him fails. Full and outside off, Buttler sees the chance of freeing his arms. He throws his bat but ends up dragging the ball on his stumps. Idea start for West Indies as Buttler could've score really quickly.  1/1

4.1 OUT! BOWLED! The middle stump goes cartwheeling. Roach gets his second wicket of the innings and England's aggressive approach is backfiring here. Good length ball on middle and off, Crawley looks to go down town but misses and the ball takes the middle stump with it. Great sight for any bowler but a fast bowler's delight.  17/2

Root keeps his head down and runs. Dowrich throws the ball to Holder who comes from mid off and whips the bails off. Root is nowhere in the frame and he has to depart.  90/3

There is a loud appeal but nothing from Buttler from behind the wickets. Root thinks and thinks and calls for the review at the last moment. And, the replays show that there is a clear spike. So, England have drawn first blood in the very first over.  7/1

The wicket England were desperately looking for and Curran has given Root that. Brilliant bowling from Sam, he comes around the wicket and pitches it around off. The change of angle works as the ball comes in off the deck. Brooks looks to defend off his back foot but misses and gets stuck on the crease. The ball hits him on his back pad. The English players put in a huge appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Brooks has a word with Holder but opts against review. Would not have mattered as replays later on show that it was hitting the wickets on umpire's call.  161/7

15 OUT! LBW! No shot offered and Chase has to go. He will not review this. Broad has his third and West Indies in a massive, massive trouble. A length ball outside off, Chase thinks it will not come back in much and shoulders arms. However, to his surprise, the ball comes back in nicely and hits him on the pads. A loud appeal follows and the umpire raises his finger. Chase keeps walking and the replays show why. It would've been waste of a review had he taken that.  37/4

On the first ball of the over, he ran all the way down to long off to save a boundary and now once again bowls an effort ball. Bangs it short around the body. Blackwood tries to somehow fend it off but ends up getting it off his gloves. The ball balloons behind. Buttler charges ahead, covers a lot of ground and takes the catch with a dive forward. A good length ball around off, Dowrich after facing the chin music in the last over is hoping to work it on the leg side. He moves a little towards the off side and is hit on the pad. Woakes and others put in a loud appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Dowrich takes it upstairs after having a word with Brooks. Let's see if he is safe or no. Front foot is fine.
