England took control of the second Test thanks to centuries from Alastair Cook (105) and Joe Root (141 not out) and ended Day 1 on 314/4 Mohammad Amir and Rahat Ali took two wickets apiece while Pakistan's hero of the first match, Yasir Shah went wicket-less. Electing to bat after winning the toss, the hosts reached 210 for the loss of two wickets at tea. After losing Alex Hales early, Cook stitched a 185-run partnership with Root.
The duo looked to be taking England home without any more setbacks but Amir castled the English captain to provide his side with a ray of hope. Nightwatchman Chris Woakes weathered the storm towards the end to keep the visitors at bay.
Alex Hales (10), James Vince (18) and Gary Ballance (23) were the other English batsman to fall on the day.

The Pakistan bowling was not up to the mark as they were stubbornly unable to take wickets or slow the flow of runs. With quite a few overs left in the day, stay tuned as Pakistan looks to answer the hosts in kind.
