IPL 7 MI vs CSK, Highlights: Dwayne Smith, MS Dhoni Help Chennai Super Kings Claim Thriller Over Mumbai Indians

Mumbai:

Chennai Super Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by four wickets. Catch all the highlights here. (Scorecard)

Dwayne Smith, Man-of-the-Match: I try to be as consistent as I can. I wasn't under any pressure playing against (former team) MI. It was a just a bit of motivation for me. They bowled very well upfront but I stuck with it. I tried to stay around as much as I could. It's good to see anyone can come in anytime and gets the runs for us.

That's the end of this game - another double-header tomorrow. Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders in Cuttack followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals in Bangalore.

MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings captain: I think it's a fantastic ground but it also has a great wicket to bat on. It was stopping a bit for the spinners. MI had just one spinner and it became easy for us. Smith is learning to play his part and it will make him a better international cricketer - to put a tag on your wicket is important. He is improving with every game. I think MI misread the wicket and that's why they went with only one spinner. When it's your home-ground, you have a plan and play to your strengths; but it's not always easy to execute your plans. We need to improve our catching and see who bowls the death overs.

Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians captain: We had a par score on this pitch; with the dew coming in, we needed 10 or 15 runs more. But we bowled well and fought hard; yes, we got to move on now. Me batting up the order does not suit the combination. We need someone to anchor the innings, so I decided to bat in the middle. Tonight, most of the batting was done by the top-order, so Pollard and Anderson did not get much time.

Chennai Super Kings win by four wickets. CSK, chasing 158, rode mostly on Dwayne Smith's solid half-century, but after he was dismissed, Mumbai Indians fought back with some key wickets. When Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja departed in quick time, the focus was once again on MS Dhoni, who did not disappoint and clobbered 22 off 12 balls to help CSK home. This was MI's first loss at the Wankhede Stadium since May 16, 2012.

11:26 IST: WICKET! Another one is down - Manhas is run out with CSK on 147/6 and they need 11 from the last over.

10:37 IST: FOUR!, FOUR! and SIX! Smith tears into Pollard as CSK reach 75/2 off 10 overs, chasing 158 to win.

10:26 IST: WICKET! Suresh Raina has been given stumped by the third umpire, even as TV replays showed he had grounded his bat back in after a wide down the leg-side by Pollard. CM Gautam did well to collect it and whips the bails off but it did not look out. CSK 56/2 off 7.5 overs.

10:20 IST: Pollard comes on and starts with a wide.

10:15 IST: End of the powerplay and CSK are 38/1. chasing 158 to win against MI

9:51 IST: FOUR! Smith finds another boundary as CSK reach 12/0 after the first over.

9:49 IST: FOUR! Smith dispatches that one from Praveen and its gone to the fence.

9:47 IST: Praveen Kumar in his first match for MI, with the new ball. Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith the openers for CSK.

Mumbai Indians are 157/6 off 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings opted to field and their debutant, Samuel Badree struck immediately to get rid of CM Gautam. But Lendl Simmons (38) and Ambati Rayudu (59) shared a 61-run stand for the second wicket. However, after Simmons departed to R Ashwin (3/30), it looked like Rohit Sharma (19) and Rayudu were gearing up for a late-order onslaught, but the lower-order imploded against some good bowling. Rohit, Pollard and Rayudu departed in quick succession before Anderson hit a few big ones in the last over to help MI to a good score at the end.

9:20 IST: WICKET! Mumbai Indians are imploding here as Rayudu falls for 59 off 43. MI are 129/5 off 18.1 overs.

9:14 IST: WICKET! Ashwin gets his wicket as Rohit holds out to Raina in the deep, who takes a good catch; that brings Pollard in the middle with MI on 122/3 off 17.3 overs.

9:08 IST: Rayudu brings up his 9th IPL half-century and he gets there only off 38 balls. This is a good platform for MI, who are 114/2 off 16.3 overs.

8:58 IST: FOUR! Poor work from Ishwar Pandey in the deep and easy runs for Rohit Sharma. Mohit Sharma, the bowler is not amused. MI 89/2 off 14.3 overs.
