IPL 2026 Retentions Highlights: The 10 IPL franchises have announced the list of retained and released players ahead of next month's IPL 2026 mini auction. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead CSK in IPL 2026, despite Sanju Samson joining the five-time champions as part of a trade deal. In what came as a big shock, Andre Russell was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The three-time champions also released last year's big money buy Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 23.75 crore). Meanwhile, CSK offloaded Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana, having retained him for Rs 13 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Australian powerhitter Glenn Maxwell was also let go by IPL 2025 runners-up Punjab Kings.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Russell's association with KKR could come to an end as the three-time champions are set to release their long-serving all-rounder. Russell had a subdued IPL 2025 campaign, prompting the franchise to look for a younger, more reliable option for the future.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could free up another Rs 13 crore as they are set to release Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, according to a report in Cricbuzz. Pathirana joined CSK in 2022, when he played two games and took two wickets. The following year, he had a breakthrough season, playing 12 games and claiming 19 wickets. In 2024, he continued his impressive form, picking up 13 wickets in six games. However, he endured a disappointing campaign last year, managing just 13 wickets while leaking runs at over 10 per over.
