17:10 hrs IST: So that is summary of the day. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Join us again tomorrow morning.

17:05 hrs IST: Despite the rain delay we got some exciting hour's play at the end of the day with Bhuvi putting India in complete command of the match

17:02 hrs IST: New Zealand end the day at 128/7 with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up his fourth five-wicket haul in Test matches!

17:00 hrs IST: Just one more over from Jadeja and it is stumps!

16:55 hrs IST: Jeetan Patel and BJ Watling at the crease.

16:52 hrs IST: The match is completely now in favour of India.

16:48 hrs IST: Five wickets for Bhuvneshwar as New Zealand are batting at 126/7

16:45 hrs IST: Matt Henry didn't even realise that the ball knocked out his off stump, beautiful that was

16:42 hrs IST: BOWLED!!! Bhuvneshwar is on a hat-trick! Wickets of consecutive deliveries!

16:40 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar has taken four, he is on fire

16:35 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar comes in for a fresh attack and OUT!!! Santner is plumb in front of the wickets!

16:32 hrs IST: New Zealand, at 121/5, have avoided the follow on

16:30 hrs IST: How long can Watling and Santner hold fort for New Zealand

16:22 hrs IST: Virat Kohli is urging the crowd to get louder... Eden is growing louder

16:21 hrs IST: BJ Watling has come in to bat and there are three slips and a gully for him

16:18 hrs IST OUT!!! The big one! It is Ross Taylor, who is caught in the slips, departs for 36. New Zealand are half the side down

16:15 hrs IST: New Zealand have crossed the 100-run mark with a boundary!

16:10 hrs IST: If India can bag the wicket of Ross Taylor, it'll be a real jackpot for the hosts.

16:02 hrs IST: Santner has joined Taylor out there in the middle

15:57 hrs IST: The teams are out there and the floodlights are on. Play is about to begin

15:50 hrs IST: Play will resume in apparently five minutes

15:45 hrs IST: So the news is that play can happen till 1730 hours if light permits. But that is a big if, considering how early it gets dark in Kolkata

15:33 hrs IST: Covers are back onto the pitch

15:20 hrs IST: Important news! The covers have come back onto the pitch!

15:15 hrs IST: And they have gone back in

15:10 hrs IST: Indian fielders are warming up in the drier part of the ground

15:02 hrs IST: The umpires are inspecting the field

14:59 hrs IST: The skies are clearing. It looks far better

14:52 hrs IST: The delay could last a little bit longer

14:45 hrs IST: The covers are coming off, very slowly

14:40 hrs IST: The umpires will inspect the ground at 1455 hours

14:35 hrs IST: The match is happening in Kolkata and it gets darker earlier in the day in the east

14:30 hrs IST: The super-soppers are doing their job at the Eden.

14:25 hrs IST: 20 minutes have passed. Even though the rain has stopped there is a lot of standing water over the covers

14:05 hrs IST: Okay this sounds like good news

14:00 hrs IST: Early tea has been taken. It is still drizzling out there

13:50 hrs IST: Rain has become really heavy now! Looks like the delay is going to get longer

13:45 hrs IST: That partnership between Ronchi and Taylor (35) lasted for 62 runs!

13:40 hrs IST: Covers are coming on! Rain has stopped play at Eden Gardens

13:35 hrs IST: OUT!!! Ronchi is LBW! Jadeja breaks the partnership!

13:30 hrs IST: It has become quite dark in Kolkata.

13:27 hrs IST: Ou... oh! Bounced just in front of Ashwin otherwise New Zealand would have been four down.

13:20 hrs IST: Even though the partnership is strong, Kohli has still put out an attacking field as he should

13:15 hrs IST: 50-run partnership comes up for Ronchi and Taylor. Very fine batting from both.

13:10 hrs IST: The Kiwi batsmen are performing pretty well against spin bowling

13:07 hrs IST: Three boundaries in Ashwin's first over!

13:05 hrs IST: Spin from both ends as Ravichandran Ashwin is introduced

13:03 hrs IST: After 14 overs of pace bowling, Virat Kohli introduces spin, brings on Ravindra Jadeja!

12:59 hrs IST: Shouldn't a guy like Jadeja be fielding at point? Virat Kohli acts like a skipper. Goes to Gambhir, gives him a five, pats his back and goes back to his position

12:55 hrs IST: Dropped! Gautam Gambhir drops Ronchi at point! Was straight at him and should have been taken!

12:52 hrs IST: New Zealand reach 50 in the 13th over of their innings, decent run rate.

12:50 hrs IST: The uncovered parts of the ground are more or less empty. A hot day in Kolkata?

12:47 hrs IST: A glorious straight drive by Ronchi. Beautiful to look at.

12:45 hrs IST: New Zealand are recovering slowly thanks to Taylor and Ronchi. India should look to break this partnership

12:40 hrs IST: This man has been on song on Saturday

12:37 hrs IST: What a shot! SIX from Ronchi over deep mid wicket! Superb shot

12:33 hrs IST: Bhuvneshwar and Shami have bowled the first 10 overs of the day. When will Kohli introduce spin? That is the question

12:32 hrs IST: 316 seems a long way away

12:30 hrs IST: Ross Taylor and Luke Ronchi will have to play the innings of their life time to rescue New Zealand out of this

12:23 hrs IST: New Zealand are more than in a spot of bother! Three wickets down for 25!

12:18 hrs IST: BOWLED!! New Zealand have lost their third wicket! Henry Nicholls is bowled for 1!

12:15 hrs IST: Kohli is attacking. Two slips and a gully for the New Zealand batsmen.

12:14 hrs IST: The number of spectators have increased as the day has progressed, plus it is Saturday.

12:13 hrs IST: And it is Mohammed Shami will the ball

12:12 hrs IST: And we are back post lunch for the second session

11:40 hrs IST: Take a break folks. We will be back after lunch!

11:38 hrs IST: The session more or less belonged to India. First they resisted the Kiwi bowling attack and then Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed the Black Caps openers to hand the home team the advantage

11:35 hrs IST: And that is lunch! New Zealand are at 21/2, 295 behind India's total of 316

11:30 hrs IST: And Gautam Gambhir is on the field as a substitute!

11:27 hrs IST: Suddenly 316 looks like a big total

11:25 hrs IST: Two new batsman Nicholls and Taylor out there.

11:20 hrs IST: OUT!!! Bowled! This time it is Martin Guptill. The ball hits his elbow and ricochets onto the stumps. New Zealand 18/2!

11:17 hrs IST: OUT!!! Tom Latham is out LBW in only the second over of the innings, found LBW to Shami!

11:15 hrs IST: Here is that amazing catch from Matt Henry again

11:12 hrs IST: Here starts the second innings!

11:10 hrs IST: New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Martin Guptill are out there with Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the ball

11:05 hrs IST: The New Zealanders should be out to bat soon before lunch.

11:03 hrs IST: Good session from India's point of view and frustrating one for New Zealand. They would have expected to bowl out India early but Saha provided the resistance. Gritty knock from the local boy

11:01 hrs IST: Shami was the last wicket to fall as he got caught off bouncer at long leg thanks to a stunning catch from Matt Henry

10:59 hrs IST: And that is it! India have been bowled out for 316 runs!

10:55 hrs IST: Shami hit hard on the helmet!

10:53 hrs IST: Shami is also getting the odd boundary to push India's score

10:50 hrs IST: 4, 6, 4! India are stepping it up!

10:47 hrs IST: Brilliant six brings up his Saha's 50 and India's 300! What a brilliant innings it has been for the wicketkeeper batsman

10:44 hrs IST: And Pakistan convincingly defeated the West Indies to take a 1-0 lead in the crucial ODI series

10:42 hrs IST: The left-handed de Kock thrashed 178 off 113 balls, with 16 fours and 11 sixes, as South Africa made a challenging target of 295 look easy.

10:40 hrs IST: Meanwhile two very interesting matches took place elsewhere. Quinton de Kock played a blinder of an innings to take South Africa to a six-wicket win over Australia

10:38 hrs IST: Saha has to stay in to help India reach the 300-run mark which can be quite a psychological advantage

10:37 hrs IST: India have batted 100 overs to score 285 runs for the loss of nine wickets

10:35 hrs IST: In comes Mohammed Shami

10:33 hrs IST: Next ball shout! And it is OUT this time! Bhuvneshwar is gone! Santner has picked up a wicket this morning and India is 281/9!

10:32 hrs IST: Big shout for LBW against Bhuvneshwar but Rod Tucker turns in down.

10:30 hrs IST: This is the 40th Test match at the Eden Gardens which first hosted a five-day game in 1934 - the most experienced ground in India. Second is Ferozeshah Kotla in India with 33

10:26 hrs IST: In the air but in the gap too! Lovely drive from the willow of Saha for a boundary!

10: 24 hrs IST: Will India be able to reach 300?

10:20 hrs IST: Out comes Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He has three Test 50s

10:18 hrs IST: Out! Jadeja is gone! He saw a short pitched delivery and pulled it only to be caught at fine leg! India 272/8

10:12 hrs IST: Ravindra Jadeja comes down the wicket and skies the ball, into the stands beyond long on for six! The first of the morning! Lovely to watch

10:05 hrs IST: India are slowly moving ahead, they have reached 261/7 - haven't lost a wicket in the first 30 minutes of play on Saturday

10:04 hrs IST: This is how the Eden looked before start of play this morning

10:02 hrs IST: Quick running between the wickets by Ravindra Jadeja

09:57 hrs IST: Saha hit on the chest by Boult. Gritty performance this from Saha so far. He is slowly, over time, developing into a more solid Test batsman.

09:53 hrs IST: Enough number of balls to last the entire match

09:48 hrs IST: Sharp bouncer there from Boult to Jadeja! Sharp and aggressive cricket here from the New Zealander

09:46 hrs IST: Jadeja and Saha are the holding the fort well, getting their ones and twos and also the occasional boundary

09:44 hrs IST: India have brought up their 250 with a boundary through the thirdman area

09:39 hrs IST: Jadeja was testing his skills as a batsman this morning. Will he use it to good effect?

09:34 hrs IST: First over is up and it was a good one. Good cricket in every sphere.

09:33 hrs IST: Trent Boult starts with a bouncer. But second swinging delivery and Saha caresses for a beautiful boundary through the covers.

09:32 hrs IST: Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease

09:31 hrs IST: Former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming rang the bell, marking the start of play on Day 2, a new tradition that was started on Friday.

09:30 hrs IST: This is going to be an interesting morning session. How will the Indian lower order be able to respond to the New Zealand attack.

09:25 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the second Test between India and New Zealand.

Ravindra Jadeja and local boy Wriddhiman Saha will have their task cut out when New Zealand attack with the second new ball. Matt Henry and Trent Boult are expected to fire on all cylinders to restrict India (239/7 off 86 overs at stumps on Day 1) to below 250 and then try and apply themselves on the newly-laid Eden Gardens strip.

India have adequate bowling arsenal to challenge the Kiwis, who are without batting mainstay and captain Kane Williamson. But stand-in captain Ross Taylor, who marshalled his bowlers exceedingly well on a hot and humid day, will hope to score runs in a big game for him and his team.

New Zealand's batting will face a solid test for sure. Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (he replaced the quicker Umesh Yadav) are great movers of the ball and left-arm spinner Jeetan Patel's two wickets will give a lot of hope to Jadeja and his off-spinning partner Ravichandran Ashwin.
