The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board held a series of meetings on Tuesday in Chennai to discuss the resumption of bilateral ties between India and Pakistan.
The window that both boards are looking at is between December 23 and January 10 for a short limited-overs series in between the Test and ODI series against England in December-January.
If that window materializes, the series will be sandwiched between the end of the Tests and the start of the limited-overs series against the visiting England team.
This development follows after the Champions League T20 governing council cleared the deck for the participation of Pakistan side Sialkot Stallions in the tournament. The restoration of bilateral ties is subject to a sanction from the Indian government.
Pakistan last toured India in December 2007, while India had agreed to reciprocate for a full tour in January 2009. However ties between the two countries took a hit due to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The disruption in ties had a secondary effect, with none of the Pakistani players allowed to participate in the IPL.
