Australian skipper Ricky Ponting praised India's efforts to win the first Test to take a 1-0 lead in Mohali.

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting praised India's efforts to win the first Test and take a 1-0 lead in Mohali.

"It was one of the exciting Test matches I have played. Full credit to India; they outplayed us today," he said. (Watch)

"The partnership between Ishant an Laxman was great and it made the difference I guess. Bollinger's injury probably didn't help us there; we needed a fresh bowler to give it a shake but that's the game," he added.

He, however, did not forget praise team member. "We tried our best. It was satisfying effort from the boys. I told them to just take out the scorecard out of the mind," Ponting said.
