ICC happy with PCB's progress

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday expressed satisfaction at the progress made by the Pakistan Cricket Board on adopting anti-corruption measures.

The PCB today briefed ICC's Pakistan Task Team (PTT) on the anti-corruption measures taken by them in the wake of the recent spot-fixing scandal involving their players.

The PTT, led by ICC Director Giles Clarke as chairman, met by teleconference to receive update from the PCB.

Clarke was joined by members of the task team as well as PCB chairman Ijaz Butt and the PCB Senior General Manager Cricket Operations (International), Subhan Ahmad, and ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.

In a statement, ICC said, "The PTT were impressed by the progress reported by the PCB."

According to the statement, ICC was happy with , "the development of an Anti-Corruption Code by the PCB, a proposed plan to regulate agents of Pakistani players and an enhanced and countrywide education programme."

"PCB has clearly recognized that it is imperative to protect the integrity of cricket and we are indeed impressed by the progress reported," ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said.

"Their willingness to play such an active role on the integrity issue is vital to the future of international cricket. They have shown a clear determination to tackle their challenges," he added.

PTT chairman Clarke said, "The PCB chairman and his team must be congratulated for the speed with which they have adopted the recommendations of the ICC Board. Everyone is encouraged by the statements and actions of the PCB and we must hope that they continue."

PCB chairman Butt said, "The PCB is determined to implement the recommendations provided by the ICC. We at the PCB, like the ICC, are committed to a zero-tolerance approach to any form of corruption."
