I will not quit captaincy, says Younus

Embattled Pakistan captain Younus Khan on Wednesday said he will not quit the job to oblige detractors running a campaign against him following the team's humiliating Test and ODI series defeats in Sri Lanka.

"Some people are running a well thought-out campaign against me but I am not going to back down or resign from the captaincy. This is only going to make me stronger and I will very soon unmask these people," Younus said.

"I have no intention to step down, why should I resign? Is my captaincy not up to the mark? Don't I have the support of the players and Board behind me? The Pakistani people support me as captain, so why I should I resign?," he asked.

Younus said it was true that the team had not performed well in Sri Lanka but asserted that the team was still capable of winning the Champions Trophy.

"I have maintained we have some quality players and if we click we can even win the Champions Trophy next month," he said.

Younus also insisted that his decisions in the past to leave the captaincy before the 2006 Champions Trophy or reject the job after the 2007 World Cup were based on personal reasons.

"But this time when the PCB offered me the captaincy I was keen to accept this responsibility. And there is no turning back now. I want to turn this team into a consistent winning outfit," he said.
