Hedley Howarth dies at 64
Hedley Howarth, a left-arm spinner who claimed 86 wickets in 30 Tests for New Zealand between 1969 and 1974, has died, New Zealand Cricket said.

Hedley Howarth, a left-arm spinner who claimed 86 wickets in 30 Tests for New Zealand between 1969 and 1974, has died, New Zealand Cricket said on Saturday. He was 64.
New Zealand Cricket did not provide details of his death.
Howarth was the hard-working hub of the New Zealand bowling attack in the early 1970s, able to sustain long spells while posing an attacking threat with his accuracy and subtle variations of flight.
The high point of his Test career came in India in 1970 when he took nine wickets, including five for 80 in the second innings, to bowl New Zealand to victory in the second Test at Nagpur, its first Test win on the sub-continent.
"Hedley was part of a Test era in the early 70s that saw New Zealand performing consistently on the world stage," New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan said. "His bowling was a big factor in that success. He remained closely involved in the game after his retirement and his loss will be keenly felt by the cricketing community throughout New Zealand."
Howarth's brother Geoff was later New Zealand's Test captain.
