Happy to finish on a high note: Kumble

Mumbai:

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Anil Kumble expressed his happiness for having finished the IPL engagement with a thumping nine-wicket victory over Deccan Chargers in the third place play-off match.

"It's always good to go out on a happy note and it has given a great opportunity to feature again in the Champions League Twenty20 in September in South Africa. Our game today was exceptional," said the former India captain.

Kumble, however, rued the fact that the Bangalore outfit had failed to reach Sunday's final and said his talented team was inconsistent through the tournament, especially against Mumbai Indians in the semi-finals on April 22.

"We played pretty inconsistently in the tournament. We had quality and experience in the line up but did not do consistently well. Today we showed we are a good side.

"Had we played consistently over 40 overs the other day I would not be addressing you today but tomorrow," said Kumble.

The highest Indian Test wicket-taker said that the team had some good individual performances to speak of.

"But we were not as consistent as we should have been. It was nice to go out with a victory but not making the final will remain a disappointment," he reiterated.

Kumble conceded it was difficult to get motivated for the tie after the semi-final loss despite the fact that the Champions League Twenty20 spot was at stake. The leg spin ace said the wicket was a difficult one to bat on and it was probably a good toss to lose today.

"The wicket was a bit sticky and not dry with the ball not coming on. And we bowled in the right areas to get the wickets. We got the wickets of the big three - Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds and Rohit (Sharma) cheaply and could put pressure on the rest," he said.

"We bowled them out for 80-odd and could chase it well. Probably in that sense it was a good toss to lose," Kumble said.
