New Delhi:

Delhi Police will "examine" South African cricketers Herschelle Gibbs and Nicky Boje over their alleged involvement in the match fixing scandal. However, the examination, modalities for which are yet to be worked out, would in no way affect the upcoming test series between India and South Africa, Delhi Police said today. The names of the two players were referred to during a telephone conversation in 2000 between former South African captain Hansie Cronje and one of the main accused Pradeep Chawla, who is currently based in England. "There are specific references and attributes to Boje and Gibbs in their (Cronje and Chawla) conversation mentioned in the FIR. In the circumstances, in case they are with the team, they would be required to be examined in the matter on the relevant points," Police Commissioner K K Paul said in a letter written to BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla. The BCCI had written to the Delhi Police seeking clarifications on whether the two South African players would be interrogated during the fothcoming tour. The South African Cricket Board had recently asked India for an assurance that Gibbs and Boje would not face any action of this sort. (PTI)
