London:

Former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald has said he is interested in returning as England's new bowling coach.

The departure of Ottis Gibson to become head coach of the West Indies has left the England and Wales Board Cricket Board (ECB) with a post to fill but no obvious domestic candidates.

"I think England are building towards something quite special and they showed in South Africa recently what a resilient side they are," Donald, now working as a media pundit in South Africa, was quoted as saying.

"If I was asked to become their bowling coach again, I would be silly not to consider it very seriously."

"I must stress that no-one has contacted me from the ECB, but I enjoyed my four months with England in 2007, the ECB were a great organisation to work for and the pack of young fast bowlers that have come through is outstanding."

"I'm flattered that my name has been linked with the job again and as an opportunity it would be a carrot I simply could not refuse," he said.

The ECB turned to Donald in 2007 the home series against India.

But Donald returned to his former county Warwickshire as a member of Ashley Giles' new coaching team in October 2007 when he cited weariness with the hectic international schedule as one of the reasons for giving up the England post.

Donald stepped down from his Warwickshire job last September for family reasons but is keen to return to international coaching, having recently missed out to his compatriot Eric Simons for the post of India's bowling coach.
