Newly-wed Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his wife Sakshi arrived here on Thursday from Ranchi to meet friends and relatives.

"Dhoni has a lot of friends in Kolkata and his wife also lived in the city so the duo decided to come here after visiting his hometown Ranchi," the friend added.

The couple is also scheduled to visit the Kalighat Temple later.

The 23-year-old Sakshi, who hails from Dehradun, had lived at the Sundaram apartment with her parents for years at Alipore here.

A former boarding school student of Welham Girls' in Dehradun, Sakshi spent all her vacations in Kolkata before getting into the Institute of Hotel Management in Aurangabad.

Sakshi did her internship with the Taj Bengal where Dhoni apparently got to meet her.

Sakshi's father, an executive director with a tea company, divides his time between Kolkata and North Bengal as his office is here while the gardens are in the Dooars and Terai.

Dhoni married childhood friend Sakshi on July 4 in a private ceremony at a farmhouse, about 25 km from Dehradun, attended only by family members and close friends, including a few of his team-mates.
