Australia opener David Warner was ruled out of fielding in the second one-day international against England because of a thumb injury he suffered to the first ball he faced with the bat at Lord's on Saturday. (Scorecard)
Warner, who struggled against the short ball during England's 3-2 Ashes series win, was struck a painful blow on the left thumb as he got in a tangle trying to play fast bowler Steven Finn's second-ball bouncer.
The ball flew over wicket-keeper Jos Buttler's head for one and Warner required treatment on the field before retiring hurt on one.
He walked off and received a consoling pat on the back from Finn.
A Cricket Australia spokesman said later that Warner would bat when required, but would not field, with the left-hander undergoing an X-ray after he'd batted.
