A cricket match played in Orangi Town, in northwest Karachi, turned tragic when a teenaged batsman was hit by a ball in his chest and died. According to reports, 18-year-old Zeeshan Mohammed was struck by a ball from a fast bowler and collapsed. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In recent times, cricket has seen some deadly episodes. Australian batsman Phillip Hughes had died at the Sydney Cricket Ground after being struck by a ball during a Sheffield Shield match. Last week, another Australian cricketer, Daniel Hughes, was left unconscious briefly after being hit by an almost identical bouncer on his neck during a first grade match but fortunately escaped unscathed.
Zeeshan was not so lucky. Police said there was no foul play and no case was lodged.
